  • Mini: Part-2

    Mini: Part-2

“Simmi, Sister is calling you. Time for departure!” Sunita said. Sunita had been looking after the orphanage for many years and was attached to the children. Simmi did not say anything but gave Mini the doll she was holding and went away. Mini outstanding in the garden watching Simmi going away from here. She could feel tears rolling down her eyes.

Time passed and the new year arrived. Simmi came to the orphanage in the new year. She met her friends, Sister, and Mini.

Simmi and Mini were sitting in the garden where they usually used to share their feelings. It was a bright sunny day with a gentle breeze blowing in the garden. They sat there in silence. The only sound which could be heard was the chirping of the birds. Finally, Mini broke the silence and said, “How are you Simmi di?”

“I am fine,” Simmi said with a sigh. “Mini told you that I can never be happy with my new parents. First, they treated me with love and affection. Gave me new clothes to wear. But soon that love disappeared. Uh!… now I am the only servant for them. I do all the household work and…” Simmi could not speak but tears rolled down her cheek.

Mini was too taken by these words to reply. “I won’t be able to meet you in future,” Simmi said and ran out crying. Mini could not do anything. For the small child, such a shock was terrifying. She decided that she would never leave the orphanage.

New year seemed to bring happiness for all but for Mini. Sister Martha was happy because a couple wanted to adopt Mini. Sister personally met Mini and said, “Mini, I am very happy. You are being adopted. Like Simmi you are going to get your new parents. We are surely going to miss you. But we all are very happy that you are being made “Mini could not resist. Her tears had dried up.

“I will not go from the orphanage,” she said steely and ran away.

Although Mini was firmly against going, the couple insisted on employing only her. Mini was helpless. She could not do anything. Finally, she was adopted.

On February 2 Mini stepped out from the orphanage and came into her new house. Mr. and Mrs. Saxena brought Mini to their sweet little home. They did not have any child, and so Mini was a valuable gift for them.

“Mini dear, come in,” Mrs. Saxena said. Circumstances had made Mini harsh and rude. “I want to go back to the orphanage,” Mini said sternly.

“First come in and see what all we have got for you,” Mr. Saxena tried to convince her.

“No, no, no, I said I want to go back,” Mini replied becoming harsh and rude.

“Ravi, she is a little girl. We should be more

“As you wish, Nisha,” he replied.

Nisha lifted Mini in her arms and took her inside. Mini did not like this. He jumped out of Nisha’s arms.

“I am not a little girl that you lift me in your arms!” Mini said.

“Ok! Sorry. But see what we have for you,” Ravi said, pointing to the bundle of gifts wrapped in colorful papers on the table. The whole room was decorated with streamers, ribbons, and balloons. Mini came and sat on the sofa without looking at the presents. But she could not resist it for long. After sometime she glanced at Nisha and Ravi and then finally went to open her gifts. As she opened them, she saw a doll wrapped in red paper. The doll was exactly like the doll she was holding in her hands-the last remembrance from Simmi. When she saw the doll, the tears which were dry, rolled down her eyes and she hugged the doll close to her chest. Nisha understood the situation and took Mini to her room.

“Would you like to eat something?” Nisha asked.

“No,” Mini said still with rudeness in her voice. “Please leave me alone.”

Nisha thought it was not wise for her to speak. Therefore, she went away. She returned to the drawing-room where Ravi was picking up the gifts.

    “What happened?” he asked.

“Nothing, I do not know why she behaves like this? Nisha asked.

“She’ll be all right in a few days. Do not worry. It’s a new place for her,” Ravi tried to explain to Nisha.

“Ah … I think you are right, “Nisha said, smiling.

Time passed. But time could not change Mini’s mind. She was positive that Mr. and Mrs. Saxena did not love her and one day they would certainly treat her like a servant.

March 8 was Mini’s birthday. The day which Nisha and Ravi awaited eagerly. Nisha wished Mini a happy birthday.

“I want to go to the orphanage,” Mini said.

“Ok! you get ready and we will take you,” Ravi answered.

“Come, I will help you to get ready, “Nisha said.

“No. I can take my bath myself. Give me my clothes,” Mini said sternly.

“Ok dear! Here are your clothes,” Nisha said giving her a new frock. Mini got ready and went to the orphanage with her new parents.

“Sister…” Mini shouted from a long way and came running to her in the orphanage.

“Hello, Mini! How are you, Happy Birthday.” Sister said with a smile.

“Good morning Mr. and Mrs. Saxena.”

    “Good morning Sister.”

“Sister, I would like to meet Simmi.” Where is she?” Mini asked.

“She is her home, “Sister replied.

“Sister, Mini is very eager to meet Simmi. Please give us her address. We will take her there,” Ravi replied.

“As you wish Mr. Saxena. I’ll give you the address.” After searching for some time, Sister handed over the address to Mr. Saxena.

“Thank you,” they said and took Mini with them.

An hour later they arrived at the address. To find an address in Mumbai was not a problem for Ravi. He had been living there for many years.

The huge wooden door of the green painted house was opened by a girl. She was wearing torn clothes. Her hair was a mess and it looked as though she had not eaten anything for many days.

“Whom do you want to meet?” she asked.

  • Pizza wars

    Pizza wars

There were literally one million people eating pizza that minute all over the globe, but I am more than a 100 percent sure, no one ate pizza like I did with jacob on that wonderful day.

Hi! I am Sandra Gilbert, a new high school kid and an intern at a local content writing office. I was always a spoon fed, naive and obedient person, which clearly defines my relationship status, if you are a clever reader. I had no girl friends either, reason being, girls back in my college days were big time snobs in my opinion.

Then right in the middle of my collage I found my Mr. Perfect. We shared so many things in common that I could never sit and count them completely in one go. He and I met in a dominos restraunt. I still love to remember that day over and over again.

I was so damn hungry that I would eat the whole table but having mercy on my digestive system I decided to order pizza only. The staff boy came within seconds to me because there were just one or two more people seated in the restaurant that day. My order was simply any veg pizza. He note that down in calligraphy, may be to stay occupied on a non busy day.

Then arrived Jack Spinslaw, the most famous student of my grade, on the counter. He had a reputation of not indulging with girls. I wasn’t attracted to him at all, but somehow I found it interesting to watch him talking to the staff person on the counter. Strangely the staff boy pointed at me, and seemingly aggitated Jack too gave me a scary look. But this does not mean that I was afraid, I was just concious. I wanted to know his mind, though I ignored his attentions for that moment.

He started walking towards me. Stopping right next to my table he then asked me with a smile,” hi! Can I have the pleasure of having your company?”

I just wanted to shout out loud to him that, what does he actually wants from me. But those words remained stuck at the back of my tongue, all thanks to my polite upbringing. I replied, ” sure, I remember we are in the same school. ” he completed it saying,” and same grade”. And I further added, ” and we share same bus for home as well”.

Then in a buttering manner he said,” by the way, I am flattered to know that the most beautiful girl of my school notices me”.

I unexpectedly blushed feeling butterflies in my belly. Then started talking about each other and our families, it seemed like our talk will never end. We both were so comfortable with each other, I couldn’t have ever imagined that an introvert girl like me could pull a talk so much with out any external help. He was also surprised, as he told me the same thing about himself. But it was just the beginning we talked so much and didn’t found single thing which was uncommon about us apart from our genders. Apparently we were new best friends, and I was cherishing the fact that my best friend is so hot and famous.

Then after 25 minutes of long waiting time, my pizza was ready. My name was called at the counter, so I got up to recieve the order. But Jack insisted to bring my order which I allowed with a bit of a struggle.

When pizza reached my table I was about to drool. It’s aroma was the most desirable smell of the day. It was a beautiful extra cheese pizza with olive toppings which was one of my favorites. It looked as delicious as the chocolate fountain looked in the Charlie’s Chocolate Factory. I was looking at the pizza just like a lover lookes at his beloved on the romantic moon lit nights.

Then I remembered I just made a new friend and as he is sharing my table, so it would be impolight if I do not ask him for the pizza. At the back of my head, there was this conflict going on, if I should eat the pizza alone or offer him to share. In the end my manners won over my greed. I asked him out of courtesy, “would you like to share… ?” but before I could complete my sentence, he already picked a giant slice and said ‘thankyou’ .

Then I took one slice too. As I took 2 bites, he finished his slice and reached for the next slice. I wached that with a heavy heart. I rushed to finish my slice and took my next slice. But he picked a third by then. I hurriedly finished my own slice while in my head I was killing my new found friend with a sharp knife. I was so unhappy that he was about to eat that slice that I didn’t notice when I spilled a glass of water on the table. Table was possibly somewhat slant so water fell on his jeans and It almost looked like he peed his pants.

He quickly stood up, but in that hurry he dropped his slice of pizza. I was felt sorry both for this pants and the pizza. And I felt like only way I could repay him is by offering him the last slice.

He too laughed it off and assured me that he has taken it very lightly. Then we focused our attention to the last slice. He wanted me to have it. And I wanted him to have the privilege.

We were feeling a bond between us in those precious moments. We almost started harbouring feelings for each other which we both admitted. Then he confessed that when he first arrived at my table, it was just to share the pizza because that was the last pizza for the day. I felt somewhat offended but admitted, I didn’t wanted him to have the pizza because I was feeling so hungry.

After one minute of silence he started taunting me and blamed that I threw water deliberately on him. That was the point where I lost my politeness and decided to finish the pizza myself. But he stoped my hand in a very ungentlemanly manner. Then we started fighting over how dare he hold my hand like that. And the fight went on and on with a new topic of arguments every thirty seconds.

It is funny to recall but at that moment our hands were on the cond damp slice and we were arguing like childhood besties. In unexpected turn of events, neither of us wanted to argue yet wanted to find a way to talk and not let the conversation die. Afterall we were just fighting over the last slice of pizza which was not even the topic of fight. But it brought us closer. And we found love over that pizza war.

  • Monsoon (Part 2)

    Monsoon (Part 2)

The roads were completely flooded with water. There was a huge traffic on the roads due to water on roads. Everyone stayed at their home at that day because of the huge inconvenience that was made by rains. No one could move out of the house due to water logging that rains made the previous night. Some of the students managed to go to their respective schools and colleges by walking or bicycling but all went in vain. They returned back to their home because all the colleges and high school in that city were closed due to rains. When the students of my apartment returned back empty handed from school and colleges. They had a huge smile on their faces and declared that day as, “Rainy Day”. And that is why there is holiday on the occasion of rainy day. They started celebrating it as a festival.

I asked them what the matter is. Among one of my friends Harshit replied very quickly that, “Due to rain the roads are logged by water and no mode of transport is working, and also the communication lines have failed; the schools, colleges and the offices are closed today.”

It is off today! That is why we are celebrating it as a festival.

    “Come join us,” said Harshit.

Also i was a fresher. I was listening to them. I thought I also have a holiday today. And all my friends made me believed so. I was unaware about the guidelines and norms of that company because i joined there recently. That is why I didn’t got ready that day for the office. I was really excited because I had off that day!

“Why are we not celebrating it?” I said.”

So we started making pakodas and sweet dishes in the room itself and started chit chatting with each other.

It was still raining so heavily in the morning but by the evening the speed of rain came to a slow pace. So, we started to go outside the house and roam around the city and see how beautiful it looks.

We all wore raincoats and each one of us took an umbrella and moved outside. The wind was so chilled. It was like that we are at some hill station. It was so cold outside. Among one of my friends was amit who was very notorious. He suggested that we should visit my office because it was near to the market and we were roaming in the market itself.

I agreed on that point and said let’s move and see my office. Deep in my thoughts i was thinking that it will be closed due to rains.

Amit replied don’t worry bhaiya! We will see your office from the outside only.

And i said yes we will go and see it. As soon as we reached my office I saw that lights were glowing inside the rooms of the office. I could see the lights in the daylights because it was dark outside due to clouds. I paused and thought for a while how could it happen? Then, the thoughts keep roaming around my mind that lights might be switched on due to the security reason. It might be possible that there should be one or two security guards appointed for the security only.

When i stepped inside the office i was tranquilized to see that every employee was working. I went into a big trauma that how could it happen? Then one of the workers from the office went to the manager of our office and gave him the news about my presence.

The manager called me and said can you tell me the reason behind the late coming of you at your office. I was in a still. I could barely utter a word. Slowly, in very low tone i thought today is the rainy day…!

What? How? The manager of the company was shocked when i answered his question. I continued by building my courage and said sir! I live in an apartment where below my apartment lives college and high school students. When they return back from the schools and college respectively i thought that today might be a holiday. They confirmed my query by saying that all school colleges and offices are closed due to heavy down pour. That is why i granted today as a holiday and was enjoying my day. When i crossed my office after visiting from the market the lights were on so i came inside just to check it and conform it because the lights were glowing inside the office.

In between all this everyone was laughing very hard. When I turned my face around I saw a lot of my colleagues were standing just behind me.

The manager of the company replied there is no such rainy day in the office. And it cannot happen in future too.

  • Monsoon (Part 1)

    Monsoon (Part 1)

Seeing raining like cats and dogs from the vision of a child can put you in a fix

It is around 30 years ago. Rohan used to study in college. He was doing his under graduation from Calcutta University. The days were glorying at that time. The air used to be pure as compared to know. There was a whole bush of green trees that surround the college. The aura was so mesmerizing there. Everyone wanted to stay at the college only. No one wanted to go back to their respective homes.

I completed my bachelor in technology from there and was busy in my placement session. Everyone at that time used to wait eagerly to get placed as soon as possible. The companies were coming to employee students from our college. The interviews used to be very hard.

I too was involved in these placement sessions so that I could get a job to buy myself and my family members a bread. So, i went to Nagpur for the interview of a company. Luckily, I cleared that interview and got selected as a computer engineer there. So, in a hurry I packed my clothes with some basic needs so that I can settle there. It happened all because my job was starting just after 3 days from the date of interview. I somehow managed to do the packing within 5 hours. My company was away from the city so I took a flat which was nearest to the company. It was around 1.5 kms way from the company. Therefore, I used to go to my job by bus or sometimes by my personal vehicle. I loved my job a lot. It was fun working there. My colleagues were so good. Also the office time was perfect. All my whole day went in working in office and travelling. I got super busy within a few days.

It was almost 2.5 moths that I had been working with the multi-national company. Summer slowly changed into monsoon. Pre-monsoon had approached there with the mild rains. That beautiful weather remained for a few days and was slowly going to change into a heavy downpour when the monsoon would be there.

The place where I used to live was a multi-storey building with 10 apartments in that building. I used to live on the 6th floor and there were a couple of high school and college students that used to live in the 5th apartment which was just below my apartment. I used to meet them whenever I was free. On weekends I used to spend my whole days with them. So we became friends very soon.

It was the mid-July when it rained so heavily in Nagpur. The rain continued till the whole night and it was a very heavy downpour. It should have been the maximum rain recorded of that year by the weather department. So, i along with my friends that used to live just below my apartment had a great fun that night. We were singing songs, dancing all night, playing many games, chit-chatting and having pakodas.

Please submit your assignments today and no excuses his time, saying this teacher left the class. Rohan with the same callous attitude continued reading the novel. As if he never bothered what’s going on in the classes meanwhile He completed reading one more novel of his favorite author. Going to college was only just for the sake of his parents and a few friends whom he could hardly count on his fingers. He was never interested in science but then again he wanted some degree to earn his bread. That’s the soul reason why he has paid thousands of bugs even though he knew he wasn’t interested in that particular field.

Next day in the canteen, while he was sitting their enjoying his half baked cookies and a cappuccino, he’s friends came to him asking about his future plans. And to their surprise, he replied with the most appropriate answer, he said he wants success. That’s it, saying this Rohan left he place. Few days later when their college was planning to start a new cell to lead the budding entrepreneurs of the college, none took he responsibility of leading the cell because they knew it was a huge responsibility and during the end of the semesters none wanted to burden themselves, but it was Rohan who always stood up during crises.

And he has proved I right once again by taking up the challenging work. And this would be the best chance for him also prove his worth in the college.

He took up the responsibility and has managed the work to very good extent. In fact he was himself nominated as one of the best budding entrepreneur of the college. This poor guy never knew that one day he would be nominated as the best entrepreneur of the country for his idea of the very beginning startup community.

That day Rohan has proved many of his lecturers, he wasn’t as useless as they’ve perceived him.  Though he passed his exams with just average scores that never bothered him. Because for him, he finally found his journey and that was too find all the budding entrepreneurs and give them all a platform to prove themselves. Bu for that again he had to get himself gain the so called name and fame or say he had to prove It first, how would be the life of an entrepreneur! And what are the upcoming challenges in the startup field.

He chooses his career and with the dedication he had to excel, one could achieve any goal set for their life. In few years he was among the youngest successful people of the world, but this wasn’t his goal. He started his own startup, encouraged the students for taking up entrepreneurship as a part of their curriculum. It brought him many challenges on his way, yet he never accepted failure.

He put in all his efforts and many a times even his name was at stake, but none could deter him and his determination. And there he is standing today being nominated as the best entrepreneur for his ideas of implementing entrepreneurship in the curriculum of their education.  One was the day when his teachers and his friends everyone mocked him for being so lazy and look at the revolution, he is standing here today revolutionizing their whole curriculum.

Now he finally achieved his goal, and within few years his work even showed him good results. He could see he positive response of his hard work or say smart work. Because he never believed in hard work and his laziness always bound him to work less, which he utilized in positive manner and developed doing smart work. He became popular and was being called up by different colleges for giving them knowledge about entrepreneurships and their successful career in that path. One fine day while he was enjoying his morning coffee with his favorite business column of the paper, he got a call from a college, and to his surprise I was his college principal on the call. He was absolutely surprised to receive their invitation, they wanted him to attend their annual fest as a special guest, and wanted him to address the students. The program was in a week, excitement filled in him and day after day his curiousness grew. He was going back to his college, that college where he has been mocked for years, but yeah he same college where he learnt about his dream and destination, the same place where his talent was rewarded for the first time.

    After a week,

He prepared himself for the presenting himself before the gathering, he has been invited to many colleges before but never before did he felt like this. His heart was palpitating and he could feel his cold inside him. He finally reached the college auditorium, his principal and the Head of departments were all heir to welcome him.

He was treated very differently in the college this time, all his teachers were proud to see him standing there after reaching the glories of height.

He was invited on to the stage to speak and address the gathering, their he stood on the other side of the stage today, what else could be a moment for someone. Standing on the same college platform as a chief guest to their annual fest, and feeling the sense of happiness and proudness in your beloved ones, what else is success!

COCO CHANEL : THE PIONEER OF TIMELESS FASHION

We all boast of at least one LBD (Little Black Dress) in our closets. Our parties and club nights seem incomplete without that one piece of garment which is glamorous and elegant at the same time. Fitted or flared, a LBD comes in all shapes and sizes and is enough to make a statement in any occasion that you go wearing it. But how many of us know how the ‘Little Black Dress’ came into being? Who created it? Who the first person to come up with this idea?

It was a woman who is considered to be the pioneer of change in women’s fashion. It was none other than Coco Chanel.

One famous quote as said by Chanel was, “Fashion fades; only style remains the same.”

Chanel wholeheartedly believed in this saying and incorporated it in her sense of design. Her designs were so advanced that they are being diligently followed even today. Chanel’s name is now synonymous with the biggest name in fashion, the brand, ‘CHANEL’.

Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel was born on 19th August, 1883 in Saumur, France to an unmarried woman named Eugenie Jeanne Devolle who was a laundrywoman. Her father was a roving street vendor, Albert Chanel, who sold work clothes and undergarments. When Gabrielle was eleven her mother passed away due to bronchitis; unable to care for his five children, Albert sent his two sons to work in the farm as labourers and his three daughters to a convent for the poor and destitute. At the age of eighteen Coco went to live in a boarding house for girls in the town of Moulins because she was too old to stay in the convent any longer.

To make ends meet, Chanel, who knew sewing, found work as a seamstress and when not plying her needle she sang in a cabaret which was frequented by cavalry officers. It was in one such performance at the ‘La Rotonde’ that Gabrielle met young ex-cavalry officer and textile heir Etienne Balsan.  She became his mistress and lived with him in his chateau for three years. These three years were a lie of luxury for the young woman as she had Etienne’s wealth at her disposal. He gifted her diamonds, dresses and pearls, but that was not enough. Chanel unknowingly started having an affair with one of Balsan’s friends, Captain Arthur Edward Capel. Capel made arrangements for her to move out of the chateau and start a life of her own, providing her with lodging quarters and funding for her first shops.

Chanel, began her career by selling self-made hats. Her first boutique, Chanel Modes, opened in 1910 when Chanel was registered as a licensed hat-maker.  In 1913, encouraged by the success of her millinery career, Chanel ventured into deluxe casual clothing.

This was the beginning of her future as one the most sought after couturieres in the history of fashion. Chanel’s designs were liberating in a sense that they provided comfort and room to breathe in a time when women were constrained in the strings of a corset. Coco Chanel is credited for doing away with the corseted silhouette by providing women with a casual, chic and sporty shape in their garments. She was also the first designer to bring to use the machine-knit heresy fabric for the construction of mainstream garments at a time when jersey was used only for making undergarments.

Her death in 1971 was a huge blow to the fashion industry. The industry had lost one of its most loved and cherished creators. She was bid farewell with white flowers and puffy eyes glistening with tears.

However, Chanel’s legacy as a designer still remains strong through her trademark look of youthful ease, liberated physicality and unencumbered confidence which is represented by her amazing silhouettes, pearl neckpieces and perfumes.

Salute to a fashion designer who transformed the history of fashion into what it is today. May her name keep shining in the years to come.
