    The Thief and the Brahmins

Once there lived a Brahmin in certain town. He was a thief. It was believed that he became thief due to some reason. He had done some bad things in his previous life. After some days four Brahmins came into this town from a far- away place. They came here to sell some goods. Days after days they made his business very successful. They earned sufficient money. Days passed away the thief kept watch on them making money. Thief got jealous from them and wants to steal their money from them. So he made a plan.
The thief approached the Brahmins as a good fellow. He won their confidence very soon by reciting the holy books by his expressing style. He done his job as effectively that the Brahmins did not understand his plan. The thief requested them to allow him to work with them. The Brahmins were agreed for this. Days passed away and the thief won their confidence.
One day the Brahmins sold all of their goods and earned a lot of money. They thought it would not be safe to take away all the money. It might be stolen during the journey. So they decided to purchase the jewels with all the money. They kept the jewels inside their thighs after making a cut in it. They hide all the money inside it and pasted their thigh with a special type of ointment to heal it. They did all this work at the time when the thief was with them. So he knew all about hiding the jewels. He thought, “I did not get a chance to steal the money till now. If they went away then how can I able to steal the jewels. So he decided to travel with them to get a chance to steal them on their way. I can give them poison on the way and steal the precious jewels.”
After some time when they all started to leave towards their home, the thief started to pretend to weep. He said to them, “Friends, you are leaving now. Our leaving makes me very sad. We were together from many days and it shared a bond of love between you and me. After your departure I will be left alone here. How I will live without you all. Please take me along with you.” After listening this Brahmins get emotional and decided to take the thief with them. Then they all together started their journey.
On their way, they were going through the jungle and after that they were crossing a village where a wild tribe lived. The chief of the tribe had a magical crow. Crow was his pet and he remains always with the chief. The crow has the power to foresee many things. As they all came near their place, the crow screamed loudly, these men have treasure with them! Kill them! Take away the treasure. Do fast!

When the tribesmen heard this, they captured all the five friends. They start searching them and their belongings. They even removed their clothes. They searched all the things but found nothing.
The chief said to them, “You definitely have something precious with you. The crow has magical power. He has never been wrong prediction before. Gave us all your treasure or we kill you all. Tell us the truth where you hide all the treasure. You may be eaten up the treasure, we can open up your stomach to recover the treasure. I warning you tell us the truth.”
The thief who also a Brahmin thought, “If they kill anyone of them and searched their bodies, they will get the jewels. They will not believe me, and kill me too to recover the treasure. Although they will not recover any jewels from my body, but I will die anyway.” He made a plan to get rid from all this and said to the chief, “My Highness, you think that we have hide the treasure in our bodies. But it will be your mistake to sacrifice all of us only to pay for the crow’s wrong prediction! I offer you myself. You can sacrifice me and open my body to recover the treasure if any.”
The chief get agreed from the thief sacrificed himself. The tribesmen killed the thief and looked every part of his body, but they found nothing. The chief was confused and thought for a while that it may be the crow misunderstanding. He humbly said to the remaining four Brahmins, “O Brahmins, it was the mistake of the crow to misunderstood you. We made a mistake to kill one of your friend, for he did not hiding the treasure. I will not want to do further mistake by killing any of you without any reason. I release you all and allow you all to continue your journey.”
In this way the four Brahmins were saved with all their jewels and continued their journey.

  • DHRUV-TARA : Story of Siblings

    DHRUV-TARA : Story of Siblings

Dhruv-Tara is not the story of the star we know. Its about the shine of this star that reflects in the relation of the brother and sister in this story. We always wish to have a brother/sister whom we can rely on and who fulfills our wishes without telling. this is a story of a similar girl whose brother is always there for.

“Tara! Tara! Where are you dear?” asked the young boy coming in through the doorway.

He was Dhruv, a 19 year old boy, the elder brother of Tara. “Tara, look I have brought you the shoes you wished to wear on your birthday. Come, put them on and show how they look on you?” Tara came running to see what her brother had brought for her. But when she saw the shoes the smile on her face just vanished away. She angrily told him “What is this bhaiya? I wanted the pink shoes and look you bought me the white ones. You always do this.” And she started crying. Dhruv tried to console her and said, “But Tara this shoes would go with your school uniform too. And look how beautiful and stylish they are.” But Tara was not going to listen any of his explanation. She wanted to have the pink shoes that her friend Priya had.

Dhruv was studying in an engineering college and had to work along with his studies to be able to give her sister all the comfort she ever wanted. On the other hand Tara was 9-year old cute little girl, who was very stubborn and always wanted something more than her brother could afford. But still Dhruv tried to give all the happiness to his sister. He did not take account of his needs so that he can provide her sister with all the luxuries and lavishness she ever thought of. He never wanted her to think that the death of their mom and dad had affected their life. He never let her miss her mother and father.

After some days she went to Dhruv and said, “Bhaiya, I want a new dress on my birthday.

All my friends have got a new frock on their birthdays. I also want one.” Her brother thought for a while, sighed and said sadly, “Tara I’m sorry but nowadays we are running out of money. You know we have to pay the rent of this house in the first week of the month. And I have also not yet received my salary. So this time I’ll not be able to present you a new dress on your birthday. I am really sorry for that dear. Hope you’ll understand.” But Tara was not going to understand. She thought that her brother didn’t want to give her anything on her birthday. So she ran to her room and started weeping. But Dhruv had no way to calm her down and make her know that how he was trying to make her birthday special but failed every time he tried to do something good for her.

This went for a few years. Dhruv had now completed her graduation. He had got a  better job. Tara was now in college. She was studying fashion designing, which had been her dream since she was in school. After many efforts Dhruv had done her admission in the best fashion designing college of the city.

Now they were getting better standards of living. After completion of the first year of Tara’s graduation she wanted a laptop so that she can complete her projects and assignments.

She told Dhruv that she wanted the latest model of laptop. Dhruv promised her that he would try to buy a laptop as soon as possible. Next week when Dhruv got his salary the first thing he did was to order the latest laptop model for her beloved Tara. He was just returning home after going to the shop.

But something had to happen before he could tell her sister that she was getting her wish fulfilled. As Dhruv was crossing the road a car came in full speed and BOOM!!! CRASH. It went in front of Dhruv and hit him. He laid there unconscious, his body dripped in blood. Tara was on her way to home when she got a phone call from her brother’s mobile. But it was not the voice of Dhruv. A man had seen the accident and went to help Dhruv. He had got his phone and called Tara’s number. He told her that the owner of this phone had met with an accident. He has already informed the ambulance. And that she should reach the city hospital right away. The phone call was a shock for her. She was thoughtless for a while. But soon was driving her Activa at full speed to reach the hospital as soon as she can.

By the time she reached the hospital, Dhruv was shifted in the emergency ward and the doctors had started the treatment. She thanked the person who called her and brought her brother to the hospital. The receptionist had told her to pay the fees. She didn’t know how she was going to pay the fees for her brother’s treatment as she had no money at that time. Then she remembered that her brother had saved some money for emergency situations. She quickly went home, opened the almirah and took out the money she needed. She rushed to the hospital and paid the fees at the reception. She got the news there that Dhruv was conscious and that she can meet him then. She went in the room and was happy to see Dhruv. She sat beside him. He told her that he was going to give her a surprise.

    He said,

“Tara, you told me that you needed a laptop to complete your assignments. I had gone today to order a new laptop for you. I hope at least this time I would be able to make you happy.”

On this Tara started crying. She sobbingly said, “Bhaiya, I was wrong. Every time you did something good for me I always used to find some fault in it. I never tried to understand the efforts you made for me to be happy. Today for a moment when I thought I was going to lose you. I realized that all these years what I was wanting was just you. I never wanted anything else but you. Please promise me, you will never leave me alone.” And she started crying. Dhruv tried to soothe her and said, “Tara, stop crying. I promise we’ll always be together. Soon I’ll be perfectly fine and again will start with my work to give my sister the lavish…….”

Tara, interfering her brother in between, said “No bhaiya. You have already done too much for this demanding sister of yours. Now it’s my turn to give you all the things that you wanted to have but were not able to get because of my demands.  I’ll now give you all the things that you ever wished of.”

After a week’s rest, Dhruv was discharged from the hospital. He went home and was surprised to see his home well decorated for his welcome. He was amazed to see that Tara had brought him his most favourite wrist watch. She hugged him and told him that she had got a part time job and that now he didn’t need to worry about the need of money for the household things. Now his sister has grown enough to take care of her brother and her house as well.

After that everything became easygoing. Dhruv started with his job once again. Tara was doing well in her studies and her performance in her job was also excellent. They had owned a little house. And as all the stories have, this one also had a HAPPY ENDING!!

  • Tory, The Cow

    Tory, The Cow

Once upon a time there lived four cows in a small village. They were called Eagy, Chity, Voly and Tory.

All of them lived in the shed of Mr. Yeti. He used to bring fresh hay for them daily from his nearby farms from far down the road of the village. He loved Tory  very much.

He often gave Tory more hay to eat and more water to drink. The other cows were usually jealous of Tory and wanted to teach her a lesson some day.

Eagy was the most clever cow of the lot. She was a brown coloured cow with a beautiful white patch near her nose. She was very proud of her beauty and wanted the other animals of the shed to keep on praising about her.

Shiy, the hen hated Eagy very much. Eagy used to break her eggs every now and then. Shiy would then find a safe place near Tory's place for her eggs. Tory would never fail in guarding Shiy's eggs like her own children.

Blacky, the cat was Eagy's best friend. He would often help her in creating all the mischief in the shed. Mr. Yeti was tired of looking after Blacky as he would often steal milk from the kitchen.

Chity was the happy go lucky cow in the whole shed. She was least cared about whatever happened around her. The hay and water that arrived at the correct time for her was all that she wanted. She didn't care about making friends too. The puddles in which she jumped into and got herself dirty mattered the least to her. She was the funniest animal of the whole barn.

Voly was a different kind of cow. She was  a pure white coloured cow and liked to be very secretive about her thoughts and problems. She also didn't like Tory but never confessed that it was Tory because of whom she would never get hay to eat. Voly  always wanted to be the celebrity. But Tory was hundreds of steps ahead of her. Voly was very frustrated with Tory. She wanted to get rid of her but didn't say anything that could make her responsible for Tory's eradication from the barn. Moreover, Voly was also the eldest cow.

One day, a heated debate had grown up among all the animals in the barn that who was the leader of their barn because they had to make their leader wear the wooden crown they had got from the nearby farm on their last Christmas.

All the animals had to choose a leader from the existing barn. Shiy decided to conduct a series of competitions to choose a leader. She made a list. It had competitions like races, situational crisis events and other funny competitions too. In the race, on the final day, Tory had won the race. She had completed her round of running around the barn in a matter of few minutes only. Each animal at the barn was cheering for her. Yet, she remained calm and composed of the victory she had achieved. Then after the races had finished, the situational events also kept on going in which again Tory had won. Voly, Eagy and Chity were very jealous of her. It was the final competition round in which Shiy had kept four different tubs of water for them. They had to drink the water as soon as possible and shout out the word 'Hurray' at the end. Whoever did that has won. It seemed like a very easy challenge for them all.

When Shiy blew the whistle for them to drink the water kept in the tubs, they had to run towards it and drink all the water. All of them, Eagy, Chity, Tory and Voly ran towards the tubs. Each of them started gulping gallons of water except Tory who just stood there near her tub. She stood near her tub silently as if waiting for something. Nearly fifteen minutes had passed by when Tory had finally started drinking water from her tub. All others were finished with their drinking of water but were unable to yell. The muddy water had choked them to death. Eagy, Voly and Chity were lying on the ground panting continuously. Tory soon finished with her job of drinking water and shouted out with joy. She had waited patiently for the mud in the water to settle down. The word 'Hurray' was echoing in the barn.

At last she was chosen as the leader of the barn. She knew that haste would always lead to waste.

Patience was the first value that was needed to become a good leader. Shiy placed the beautiful wooden crown on Tory's head and all the animals at the barn were happy. Eagy, Voly and Chity were taken care of and they learnt a lot from Tory. Indeed, Tory was the best animal at the barn. Mr. Yeti didn't ever have any problems from then onwards. Tory was there for him always.
