  • A THURSDAY

Sisel stood in a corner watching the cheerful people around her dancing to the American beats with glasses in their hands. She swayed her head from left to right, trying to find someone involved in something else but couldn’t. Until her eyes could stretch, people danced, sang, and drank.

Dejected, she pulled her dress lower. She didn’t want to attend the party in the first place, but her mother forced her. Her words, “This is how you will behave?”
“Mom, but I don’t like such things.”
“Yes, I very well know what you like. Sitting in this room, reading these nonsense books the whole day and roaming with your stupid friends at night.”

“How can you say that! Yes, I enjoy reading, is it something wrong? And I chill with my friends at night. You also know I go to the park for fresh air.”

    “And what good it brings?”

“It gives me peace, happiness, satisfaction, and energy to carry on with life.”

“Oh shut up, these poetic words, that’s all you have learned from these stupid books,” she grabbed the book from her hand.

“Mom, return that back to me.”

“Listen, Sisel, you are my daughter — Mrs Brown, one of the fashionista of the city. Live to my esteem. You are going today to the party and don’t spoil my reputation. I will send you a dress and driver till night.”

“But Mom! I don’t fit in there!”

“You definitely will. You are my daughter,” and she left the room.

Sisel exhaled, recalling her mother’s words. She thought to himself, “Yes, I am her daughter, but I can differ in traits. Why she thinks I like what she liked, I love how she lived, and I desire what she desired.”

The volume increased in the background, and Sisel moved across the pool to suppress the sound.

“Hey, you are Mrs Brown’s daughter, right?”
    “Yes, hello, myself Sisel Brown.”
“Oh, hello darling,” she immediately hugged her, “nice to meet you.”
She was confused. Neither she knew the woman nor did she know how to react.
    “Do you recognise me?”
“Ahhh…” she smiled awkwardly, thinking, “Have I even met her before?”
“Oh, no problem, no problem. I can understand it had been a long time since we met last. Myself, Rosy, Rosy Bieber. Your mother and I are full-time shopping enthusiasts. We never miss a new or trendy collection in the market.”
    “Oh hello, nice meeting you.”
“Nice meeting you too dear, I must say this dress looks gorgeous on you. The light green colour, the shimmer, and the pearl jewellery are so on the spot. You have your mother’s taste.”She wanted to say it was her mother who decided the outfit—but thought better not.

The waiter came from the side. “Would you like something, ma’am?”
“Yes, sure,” and Mrs Rosy picked a wine glass.
    “No, thanks,” Sisel replied
.“What! Mrs Rosy’s daughter’s empty-handed. No, no, no, it doesn’t suit you! Take,” she picked up another wine glass and handed it to her.

She took it but she had never drank before. She was starting at the glass with a great desire to keep it down, but her mother’s words, “Live to my reputation,” stopped her.

“Drink, drink, don’t be shy,” she pushed the glass into her mouth. She sipped once, twice, thrice, before Mrs Rosy let her go. Instantly struggling to swallow, she couldn’t bear it. Still, she forced a smile on her face and said, “Nice meeting you. Will take your leave now.”
“Yes sure, dear. Will meet again.” She smiled and ran from there towards the exit. But she has to cross the dance floor before she could leave this party!

Coughing, she skids into the crowd, trying to avoid people as much as she can. Still, she bumped into a lady, “I am sorry,”
“No problem. Hey, you are Sisel, right? What a pleasant surprise!” she said with a big smile.
    “Hello,” she replied slowly.
“You look fantastic, totally like your mother. Confident, bold, yet elegant at the same time. Come, darling, dance with us.”
She wanted to shout, “NO! NO!” but her mother’s face came before her eyes and she started dancing with the ladies.

After 10 minutes of useless movement, she couldn’t tolerate it anymore. She moved her eyes towards the lady, busy swaying with the beat followed by the lot. She walked to her. “Nice meeting you. I will take your leave now,” she said, forcing a smile on her face and trying to remain as calm as possible.

    “Please say yes!” she prayed.
“Yes, sure Sisel. Will see you soon.”
“Thank you,” and she ran towards her car.

Opening the gate, she sat inside instructing the driver, “Drive home.” As the car started moving away, she relaxed.

She sat back, recalling how tensed she had been in the last few hours. Though it was a party, she couldn’t enjoy it. How desperately she wanted to run from there and put off these jewels! “Why Mom didn’t understand, I don’t like these parties. It’s her style, not mine. Yes, I am her daughter, but I have my own traits. I can differ from her. Why she forces me to be what she likes? What about my wishes? My liking? My dreams? My aspirations?”

    “Ma’am, we have reached.”

She stepped down from the car with a headache and a feeling of drowsiness. Barely able to walk, she pushed herself towards the room. Hardly she seated herself then her mother entered the room.

“You came. How was the party?”
“It was fine,” she wanted to say worst, but she was not in a state to fight
    .“What you did there?”
“Stood for some time, then met Mrs Rosy, had a drink, then danced with a lady and left.”
“Oh, you met Mrs Rosy. Nice, she is a wonderful lady. Whom else?”
“I don’t know her name. She knew me, but I didn’t.”
“And these are your manners? You wouldn’t even ask a lady who she is?”
    “I was not feeling well.”
“I know, I know, how can you feel well at a place picked by your mom! Totally want to do the opposite of whatever I say. I am fed up with you. I really wish I had a better daughter,” and she left, slamming the door behind her.

Sisel lay on the bed, sobbing heavily. She did all of this to make her mother happy and instead of seeing a smile on her face; she received criticism.

Dancing Dreams: Lily’s Journey of Rediscovery

A young girl named Lily once lived in the peaceful town of Meadowville. Lily, who was just twelve years old, was an excellent student who always got high ratings in her classes. She did, however, secretly have a passion for dance.

Lily loved the sensation of losing herself in the tunes and letting her body flow with the beat. But she was unable to pursue her actual love due to her demanding school schedule and her parents’ high expectations. She reluctantly put her aspirations on hold and concentrated completely on her academics.

Years went by, and Lily’s dedication paid off. She received a scholarship to an exclusive university after graduating as her class’s leader. She got lost in her academic work and pursued a profession in medicine because she wanted to honor her family. However, as time passed, Lily started to feel empty in her life.

One fateful evening, Lily was scrolling through social media when she came upon a video of an amazing dancing performance. A feeling of longing rushed over Lily as she observed the dancer’s exquisite movements and genuine delight. She experienced flashbacks of her early passion, reigniting a long-dormant flame.

Lily had just made a choice that would change her entire life. She committed to rediscovering her love of dance and pursuing the path that was meant for her. She signed up for a local dancing academy, totally embracing her rediscovered passion, despite her hard profession as a doctor. It was not an easy road. Lily struggled to balance her commitment to the dance form with a hard job schedule.

Lily didn’t let that stop her. She spent countless hours enhancing her craft and regaining her old grace in the studio. Lily regained tremendous joy and fulfillment when she devoted herself to dancing. She found shelter in dance, using it to communicate her most intense feelings and re-establish her genuine self.

Lily’s passion and talent eventually came to light. With her grace and alluring charm, she adorned the stages of regional recitals and competitions. She was propelled into a career as a dancer by renowned dance groups who noticed her unquestionable skill.

Following Lily’s heart led to both her fulfillment and the inspiration of those around her. Her tale went viral, inspiring people of all ages and walks of life to follow their ambitions. Lily came to represent optimism, showing everyone that it is never too late to follow your aspirations and experience true happiness.

As a result, the once-motivated and diligent little girl grew into a beautiful woman who enchanted the world with her dance. Following her passion was not a diversion from her academics, but rather a path to a more fulfilling life, as Lily’s incredible journey taught her. She developed into a living example of the effectiveness of tenacity and the enchantment that arises when one decides to dance to their heart’s rhythm.

How to be Successful: Think like a Leader

Do you have any clashes at work or in your personal life? Are you concerned that if you do something great, others will look down on you? Are you anxious that your own family would not support you in doing something you enjoy? Are you unable to complete a task because you are afraid of failing? Do you want to establish your own business but something is preventing you from doing so? Do you seek advice or look for motivating and inspirational films or videos for success stories or tips on how to live a worry-free life?

The book ‘How to be Successful: Think like a Leader’ written by the author, ‘M. Curtis McCoy’ is a motivating and uplifting book. It compiles several interviews and true stories of Jeff Wobig, Connie Wyatt, Paul B. Watson, Eric Payne, Caujuan Mayo, Nathan Schulhof, and Jeff McGregor.

In the fourth chapter, the author has answered a series of interview questions about his definition of success, what steps he took to get to a certain point in life, his greatest strengths, his greatest weaknesses, how he overcame them, what types of books he has read, what types of character traits he values the most in others, what inspires him, what advice he would give to others, and many other topics.

The author has added short encouraging chapters after each interview to motivate the readers such as reward yourself, make others feel appreciated, six keys to building quality friendships, meet new friends, take pride in your appearance, stop wasting your life, the art of saying ‘No’, improve your attitude, develop winning habits and many more.

There have already been many times in your life where you thought you put everything you could towards achieving a specific task but, you failed. The times you came close to success but just fell short. They may seem like failures but they aren’t. Each time we try and fail not only do we learn more about ourselves but we develop strength for the next round. Quite simply you learn from the small battles what it takes to win the war. Remember if it was easy to be highly successful everyone would do it. Achievement is an ongoing process, you need to go over your goals every single day with laser beam focus. A dream becomes a goal when action is taken towards it.

Throughout the book, the author has included numerous inspirational quotes that will inspire readers to take action in their lives. Although there were a few grammatical and typographical errors, they did not deviate from the message the author was trying to convey. In addition, the author’s writing style was also distinct and easy to comprehend. The power of prayer and the Christian faith in God are all mentioned. This book is suitable for young entrepreneurs as well as anyone who feels stuck in their career/ job or life situation. I would like to rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. “Success is the ability to bounce back from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm.”

He was never kissed by his month or the burn side of his face which made him believe that he don’t deserve the life he was living. He stopped going to school and made the four walls of his room his entire world. He stared at the roof all night until the sleep felt pity over him and covered him in its dark peace. One day, he felt frustrated and suffocating to sit in his room and decided to go for a walk. While walking he came came accross a house with a beautiful garden in front. There seemed no one living in the house se he climbed up the wall and landed in the garden. As he stepped forward a voice came from inside the house. He didn’t realised there was someone living in the house. He decided to go back to his house but as he turned around to go back the heavy voice told him to stay. The voice was of an old man who stood at the window. He told Luke that it is ok for him to visit the garden and that many children often visit the garden without permission. Luke started shivering and felt uncomfortable and just wanted to return but the old man told him that he can stay there for as long as he want. Luke told him that his face might scare the old man. The old man laughed and said he had a time leg which was even more terrifying. They started conversation. Luke in every way possible tried to convince the old man that world was cruel and nobody will ever love him. The old man said that it was not his responsibility to make others love him but it was his responsibility to love himself. The old man told him that he only Target and see the cruel and bad things happening ignoring the good in them. When asked about what he see in the garden he was standing Luke told the man he notice many bushes. The old man smiled and said that he ignored the flowers and fruits the garden holds and only focused on bushes. Luke asked why man didn’t had any curtains or any coverings on the windows, the man replied that he didn’t liked to shut things down. He love listening to wind and welcoming the sunlight and the rain. After having a conversation Like was convinced to have a positive outlook towards life and to be who he wants to be because he was physically healthy unlike the old man with a leg of tin. The old man said he was going to pluck some apples and if Luke could help him but Luke said he must inform his mother about this. The old man said he might never return to help him but Luke promised to return. When Luke reached home he told his mother about the man and how his point of view was changed by the man’s thoughts. Luke’s mother told him that there was no one in that house and that he was just imaging. Luke disagreed with his mother and ran from home to help the man. When he reached there he called the man and looked for him everywhere but no one was there. While searching, Luke took a peek inside from the window and saw the picture of that man hanging on the wall and below it was the date mentioned of his death. There was a quote written below the picture and date the quote stated, “I will always be here for those who need light in a world full of darkness”. Luke decided to be like that man and have a positive outlook towards life and to become a reason for his existence instead of finding a reason to not exist.
