  • Strange love

    Strange love

(‘Sucker for pain’ plays in the background)

I tried to open my eyes which were still full of sleep. Unconsciously I started searching for the source of this noise and realized after a minute that it was my alarm. Still not able to see clearly I turned off my alarm and tossed the phone on my bed’s farther corner. After a minute I realized that I was getting late for my morning class. Suddenly I heard someone’s voice, “Hey sleepy head, wake up now! You’re already late for class!” I looked up and saw my roommate getting ready for college. But today I was in no mood for attending college. I had some other far more important plans. Finally, this was the day! After this long span of seven months, finally, am going to meet him today.

I still remember the way we met for the first time. It was a regular boring day in school. I was the newly elected vice captain of my house and was called upon by my house captains to start preparations for the upcoming inter-house skit competition. I was at the place where we were supposed to meet each other. There was no one in the class, I was early. After a few minutes the captains entered the class. They were followed by a handsome guy. I wondered how have I never ever noticed this guy before. I mean a person with this charming face cannot be missed by any girl who is in her right mind. I still remember that smiling face and his warm hello.

A crackling sound broke my train of thoughts. I looked up and noticed that my roommate has already left for college. I got up and lazily stood in front of the mirror, yawning and rubbing my eyes. As I looked into the mirror I realized that my face had an unnatural glow today. I was happy, excited and scared at the same time. I took a long shower. After all I wanted to look my best today. As I was tying up my hairs I suddenly remembered how he used to tell me that he loved it when I kept my hairs open. I shyly smiled at myself and opened my bun. After rejecting a couple of different dresses I finally decided to wear the dress which I wore on our first date. It’s been a long time since I last wore that dress.

Our first date was no less than a fairy tale story. And our first kiss was just perfect. It was better than the one I imagined. We were leaving the theater after watching a movie, it was almost dark outside. As we reached the parking area, he told me that he had a surprise for me. Excitedly I asked him about the surprise. “Hop on to know”, he said with a smirk on his face. I sat on his bike and he took me to a place on the outskirts of the city. It was dark. He held my hand and guided me through the way. As we were about to reach the spot he asked me to close my eyes. I followed his instructions. After a while, standing behind me, he asked me to open my eyes. As I opened my eyes I was mesmerized by the view. We were standing on a platform near by a lake. It was a full moon day and the moons reflection on the gentle waves of the lake made the place magical. It looked as though the starry sky was smiling. Amazed by the view I turned and hugged him tightly. After which he placed his phone on one corner of the platform and started his playlist of romantic songs which he created especially for me. He held my waist and pulled me close as I gently placed my hands on his shoulder and we started to dance on the slow rhythm of the song. We were closer than we have ever been before. We could hear each other’s fast heartbeat. I don’t know who leaned in first but we just got pulled towards each other like magnets and before we knew anything our lips met and we kissed.

I was again brought back into reality by my phone’s loud ringtone. It was him. My heat was racing. Nervously I answered his call. I wasn’t sure about what to say so I decided to remain silent. He finally broke the silence with his enthusiastic ‘hello’. In an effort to not sound too desperate I replied with a plain ‘hey’. There were a thousand things going on in my mind at that moment. But the major one was how much I missed his voice. We then decided the time and place where we were meeting. As I prepared to leave the hostel, I once again looked at myself in the mirror. No mistakes are to be made today, I instructed myself.

After an hour’s ride in the bus, I reached the decided place. He was late as usual. I walked up to the park by myself and was sitting on a bench. I was super nervous after all I was meeting him after a really long time. After waiting for half an hour, he finally arrived. He was wearing a black shirt with blue jeans and formal shoes. Black always suited him best. As I saw him walking towards me, my cheeks automatically turned red and my face reflected the widest curve ever. I somehow managed to hide that wide smile and just waved at him and his new girlfriend (also my best friend). And although I still loved him more than anything in my life I pretended to move on just for the sake of his happiness. Love is a strange emotion which makes you do stuff that you can’t ever imagine doing for anyone. And just like our relationship, our break up was also a big secret that nobody knows about. Not even my best friend.

  • The Girl Wearing The Hoodie

    The Girl Wearing The Hoodie

The girl wearing the hoodie sitting in the corner of their favorite cafe, carrying a single notebook, knew about loss. How the four letter word could affect a person and change their world forever. How that four letter word can change the person itself; helping the person to shut down from the rest of the world. She knew all this from personal experience.

The struggles she faced from day to day were always those struggles that didn’t seem to fade away ever. Waking up in the morning, she always saw a lost little girl standing in front of the mirror, mourning alone to cope up with the loss she had suffered. The pain, anxiety, nightmares, insecurity most of all not having that person she loved washed over her every morning like an ocean making her feel inadequate and lonely. Every single person seemed to leave her, maybe for someone better or maybe they just left. People say time heals every wound. So that’s what she did every day. Look at the clock, waiting. Waiting for time to heal her wound and pain, her sadness and distress. As time faded away, she knew she needed to be strong. If not for herself but for those people who were near and dear to her and were also with her during those dark phases of life. She could not become weak, she could not just break in a world filled with monsters waiting to pick up those exact broken pieces and throw them somewhere where no one could trace them. Furthermore, she had to show the people who left her that she was strong enough to carry on with her life with a perfect, happy smile on her face pretending. Pretending that everything was jolly and merry and that she had absolutely nothing to be sad about, that she could go on with her life without the fear of abandonment gnawing at her insides. But that was just an illusion. An illusion for the cruel world outside.

On breaking the illusion, one would be able to see that all she wanted to do was scream and cry and again scream and cry but there was no one to notice her hollow tears. She wanted to hide and get away from everything else in the world just for a few days to cope with the loss she had just suffered. She wanted to world to acknowledge her loss and slow down, just so she could mourn for a little bit. She wanted the time to stop for her, to stop so she could press the rewind button and go back to all those moments she had spent with him and taken them for granted. She wanted to relive those precious moments once again so that she could see him one last time, touch him, feel him, one last time. But he is here. She knew he had left the solid ground but what the people didn’t know that he still lived in her heart. She would stay strong for everyone else for she knew he had kept her together for so long even after leaving.

Looking across the glass window, the girl saw life going on. Cars speeding by, people going back home from their work, teenagers going out with their friends and also two old people walking past the cafe holding hands, maybe doing their evening walk for better health. She smiled on looking at the old couple. How she had wished for the exact same thing, how she had hoped that one day they would grow old together and be there for each other. Life doesn’t stop for anyone, she thought. It goes on irrespective of what happened to an individual. A single person is never noticed in this world easily getting lost among thousands of people. It is a labyrinth from which one cannot escape. She wiped her tears which were about to fall artistically so that no one would notice and opened up the notebook she had just bought from the less visited stationary shop to start writing.

    Dear Diary,

I don’t think that he ever imagined how much pain I would be in once he was gone because if he had he wouldn’t have left me. Words cannot express the amount of emotions that have come with trying to let him go. Every day has been a struggle for me, every single day. Though it’s been a year, it’s still hard for me to grasp the fact that he is really gone. Really really gone. Sometimes, even now, I don’t know what to do with myself. There have been days that I haven’t wanted to get out of bed and days that if I allowed myself, I could cry and cry and cry on just to get off the weight pressing down on my heart which makes it all the more difficult to breathe.

Even if it’s been a year, I still sit and stare at his picture thinking that if I do so he would come out of it. Silly, I know. Sometimes I even sleep with them by my side. Silly, again. I miss his voice, his smile, his eyes, his touch, his eyes, his late night texts and phone calls, his smell and his ways to comfort me. Until I see him again, I’m always going to miss him. Because that’s what loss is about.

    Yours,

     The girl wearing the hoodie.

As the girl closed the diary thinking about the past visits to this cafe with him, she remembered the way he used to tuck her hair behind her ears while she sipped on her coffee, the way he used to caress her cheeks in affection, the way he used to hold her hand giving her a sense of comfort and protection, the way he used to look at her as if she was the most important thing in his life giving her a warm, woozy feeling inside. A wave of nostalgia and incompleteness washed over her. Those things that made the cafe better had now become the things which reminded her of him, making her miss him more until she gets to see him again, which might take a long, long time.

  • LIBRARY

    LIBRARY

This story is about a girl and her struggle to keep her friendship. Hope you enjoy reading it.

Books are definitely one of the best friends one can have. They teach us every small but essential lesson of our life. For readers’ a book is like a drug but not everyone is addicted to this drug. Library is a peaceful place for reader’s mind. Sitting in a chair with her head down staring at the books, Samaira didn’t notice when one of her friends came and sat beside her. She was surprised to see him at that time because he was usually busy. Samaira wanted to take some rest from long studies so she and her friend went for a walk in a park where both talked and exchanged a lot of thoughts. Samaira always liked to talk with him and never refused the opportunity if ever got one.

Their meetings were becoming regular. They used to hangout for at least 2 hours every day. But now, she thought that she might have developed some feelings for him. Her friends always used to say or rather warn her that, “Samaira, be careful almost every boy is same. Lakshay is no exception. They might not develop the same feelings as yours. So if you have any, any feelings for him try to control it or divert it.” Samaira used to ignore such sayings and always says that, “he’s just my good friend and nothing else.” She used to hide and control her small but emerging feelings to a very good extend. She even tried to convince herself by saying, “I don’t need to develop any feelings for anyone. I came here for study and that’s what I should be doing.” Their friendship was growing stronger and stronger by each passing day.

One day Lakshay told Samaira about a girl named Myra. Samaira only knew a little bit about her as they used to share some common lectures. That girl was usually not liked by many people and so her friends were less but Lakshay was one of them. Lakshay told Samaira about their normal chatting to meeting and then a little hangout. Samaira observed that Lakshay’s and Myra’s interests were almost the same and the way Lakshay tells her about Myra she thought that he had developed feelings for her. Being his good friend, Samaira thought to dig out about this more and she advised jack that he should spend more time with Myra instead of her. She thought herself to be an obstacle in their path but Lakshay never thought about it. He used to share everything with Samaira and took her advice on every matter. Hiding her pain in the words which Lakshay never understood Samaira used to give the best advice and always praises that girl even though she don’t deserves that. Now, whenever Lakshay spends some time with Samaira he used to talk about Myra continuously and ask Samaira her opinion. Samaira used to hide her pain and anger in the best curve under her nose. She used to give her opinion and then smile as if nothing happened.

After a month Samaira got really upset as some of her friends were continuously teasing her without any valid reason. They even started bullying her. She was a kind of girl who can’t handle such things. The lame reason of teasing was that boy “Lakshay”. Ultimately, she decided to break the friendship so as to be free from teasing as well as her being an ‘obstacle’ in Lakshay and Myra’s life is also removed. It’s like killing two birds with one shot.

Finally, she took a deep breath and told Lakshay that she no longer can continue with their friendship. He was definitely heartbroken. Samaira was one of his very good friends. He even tried to explain things but it ultimately went against him. At last he accepted her proposal to break friendship but also promised that whenever needed he will be there by her side.

Samaira once again focused on her studies. The time she developed feelings have ruined her studies and grades as well. She has become an average student from the topper one. But now she worked hard and hard. She completed her course with good grades and got a decent job. Her schedule was a busy one but still she took some time to visit library. Library had always been her favorite place. All the answers which she wanted were given by books.

It was a normal day when she encountered a man whom she thought to know but was a total stranger. He gave her the book which she was searching for many weeks. She thanked him courteously and went to read. The stranger was not alone. A girl was with him, might be wife or girlfriend. They both sat opposite to Samaira. For an instance Samaira was back again in her college days. She continuously stared them so as to double check that whether she was right or it’s just an illusion. They got conscious and then Samaira observed that she was right. She was not grief-stricken or sad that day. She was content that they didn’t recognize her. She immediately dropped any thought at that time and started concentrating on her book again. That day she saw the power of friendship, power of time and the power of that place. That book which she was searching for about two months was given to her by some stranger friend.

She remembered his promise and his friendship but had lost her friend forever. That day she fell in love again but this time with someone different. She fell in love with someone who promised never to leave her again. She fell in love with books and they will never leave her alone.

  • The Perfect Night

    The Perfect Night

Sara was sitting on a stool smiling as she looked at her friends dancing. Sara and her 4 girlfriends were at Goa beach, enjoying their last day of the trip. Sara’s friends were dancing wildly at a beach party they were at. Sara was looking around casually when suddenly her look fell on a guy. Their eye met like a scene in a movie, across the dance floor. They were complete strangers but suddenly they both felt like they were in the right place. Automatically they started walking towards the exit. It was like their minds connected and their souls talked.

Without uttering any words they started walking away from the party and their fingers constantly touched, almost like playing with each other. They started walking towards big rocks and sat there. Waves splashed across their bodies. Sara lay down and he too followed the same. Stars shone more brightly than ever. He faced towards her. Their eyes never lost contact and said millions of things that their lips could never explain. Their heartbeats were so fast and loud that anyone could have heard them. They were so close that he could smell her hairs and she was in love with fragrance of his body. Their body warmth merged into one.  He was totally mesmerized by her beauty which was more enhanced by the moonlight, he touched her face gently and kissed her forehead. She was smitten by his warm presence. They both felt so right. They did not say a word, they did not feel the need to explain their feelings and they both slept soundly holding hands.

In the morning as the sun rose, he opened his eyes and found Sara’s eye already staring at his face. Her smile made this morning the best morning of his life. She felt as if this face would make everything right in this world. They quietly walked towards the road to part ways. As she looked at him for the last time he leaned towards her ears and whispered “This is not the End.”

  • A Letter

    A Letter

    Dear,

It is an explicit fact that I have fallen in love with you. From the past, I don’t even know how long, a feeling has bonded my soul with your smile and without it, I barely breathe. Your every look at me with that twinkle in your eye and that grin on your face makes me fall more deeply in your love. I, my dear, am nothing as compared in front of you but a nugatory part of your life. Thoughts of spending every minute with you, I accept bring a wave of ardor through me but they also bring tears to my eyes as I know that what I seek will never be found. Your every touch unriddle my doubts about the god and its creation in the universe. Well, some find me funny where others think of me as a piece of junk trying to sew the words, to create a bridge between me and my failures but what I am my dear is a confusion and most of the times I also don’t give it many thoughts. My trifling existence is very much balanced on your thoughts and your voice. Every time we meet and the movement of your lips occurs and you speak in your beautiful voice to me my name, it beguiles me to think to take you as far as I can from this place of crooks and cracksman and proffer you my love, as your beatific smile stays where it belongs.

I, usually, sit around the corner as a melancholy wave hits me in the heart. A moment with tears I spend like they are my only friends who take my sadness so much into them that they fall due to its burden through my eyes. It is in this time my dear I miss you most. It is then when I want you to be holding my hand because then I can rest in peace with a smile on my face and believing that my search of your unimaginable existence has come to an end, but my dear, I know that my soul will never rest in peace and will roam on the banks of Ganges, chanting the name of Ram and Krishna and my love will never end as it is innocuous for you in every single way and god forbid if you ever sit around the corner and wish someone to hold your hand, I will be there taking your sorrow on mine and dropping from your eyes saying you a goodbye.

  • Brother’s Love

    Brother’s Love

One day, Rose gets upsets and starts crying when she is sitting with her mother in the restaurant. She starts yelling and screaming that the scar on her face is not going away and she has to meet a boy in a day. Her mother asks her what happened, how you got this scar and also who is this boy. Her mother says, “I left the house for just two days and you got this.” Rose starts crying and hugs her mother. She starts telling her mother how did this scar come and all the torture she had to go through within these two days of her short life.

She says, “I was coming from my friend’s house and James (her brother) from his friend’s house. He saw me in the lobby, ran towards the house, and closed the door. The handle of the door hit my head and I was bleeding, which I did not know. He pulled me inside my room and made me see my face. I was screaming, “Oh my god, blood.” You will not believe, he was standing there and laughing and rolling on the floor. Afterwards when I started crying, he bandaged me like a mother. I was so touched to see that mom.”

Then, I was standing in the balcony and he came with a mug. The mug was full of cold water and he poured it on me. It was freezing outside and I was freezing too. I was yelling at him, “Are you out of your mind, stupid.” He ran inside and so did I. He came with a towel, threw me inside the bathroom, and locked it from outside. I was totally in belief that he was not my real brother and you have adopted either of us from an adoption house.

I came outside of my room and started searching for the food on the dining table as to what I should eat. However, I smelt something fishy here as well. The sooner I sat on the chair I fell off the chair as per my estimation. Now, who will believe that he is my real brother? I asked him gently what his problem is. He replied with a grin, “YOU.” I lost my calm and asked him, “What do you get out of this?” He says with an innocent smile, “Happiness, I get happiness and relaxation after teasing you. You are the reason of my happiness and for your kind information I hate you to the moon and back.”

I went to my bed and tried to sleep and here he comes with another annoying tactic. He came with a stereo and placed it inside my room and near my ears. He started playing EDM in my room when I was trying to fall asleep. At last, I had to beg him to stop playing music and let me sleep. I had to touch his feet and say that I am loser and he is a winner. Then only he left the room. The amount of I had to feel in these two days were a lot more than any other day.

Today, when I was coming, a boy whistled at me and you will not imagine what happened next. He went straight towards him and hit him so hard that he could not move for a while. I was so happy to see that moment as I felt alive after so long in my life of two days. Her mother starts laughing and Rose felt a bit offended and shy at time.

Everyone knows that every brother loves their sister to infinity and cares for them the most. Though, they will never accept the fact that they love their sisters.
