  • Silence

    Silence

The best expression of feelings, when words are not enough!!!

Once again, he looked at her, mesmerized by her beauty as always! The ugliness that the pain has caused her seemed to have been transformed into raw beauty upon touching her. He sat there near her bed, the bed that was of theirs once, where they took the vows of togetherness for life time and that bed where they made love for the first time and he unveiled her bit by bit through his lascivious eyes and lustful desires; the bed where they cried in times of adversities and held on to each other, the place where they laughed together and celebrated many events of life.  The room which now smelled of sanitary napkins and medicines, he remembered the days when it smelled of perfumes and scent of love.

The colours in the walls that they painted and how excited his lady was to paint it as per imaginations and hang the paintings and sculptures collected from various exhibitions to make it the most beautiful place on earth! Memories were flashing in front of his eyes. He remembered the ever active soul, who used to fill his life with vigour, and then found her on the bed, lying in front of him, silent and numb!

The whole world was expecting time to pass soon. Everybody was waiting for the New Year to arrive as soon as possible for the celebration mood was getting intensified with each passing moment. But he just wanted it to freeze right there, through their locked eyes and intertwined hands; he wanted to steal some more time to be with his wife, the person he loved so much that everything else seemed unimportant. Somewhere within he knew that she is not a guest too long on earth and he just didn’t want to accept it.

Time listened of none, neither did it slow down nor did it fly first but it just flowed as it wanted to be. Sitting there he wondered how can anything be so perfect, never in a hurry or never lazy, flowing just as a regular routine, enthusiastic about nothing and loathing nothing yet just being a mute witness for everything that happens.

He just looked into her eyes, anticipating the silence to be broken once again by her soft voice. But it didn’t; she only looked at him with a completely blank stare. He as if realized each bit of her pain yet sat there being helpless. He is a doctor and today he is feeling the sentiments of the most helpless person in earth. The person whom the world worships as a doctor and who got numerous medals for being such a nice doctor, sat there holding the hands of his wife and feeling helpless and unable to cure the most important person of his life.

He remembered in the silence, every morning they spent together. The good morning kisses and the tea at the bedside that he received along with the news paper. He remembered her wet hairs and her seductive looks with them when she tried to wake him up from the bed and he would be so inclined to touch her and kiss her and yet she will just push him slightly to tell him that she had some sort of a fasting for some God or Goddess and he will wake up like a little obedient kid to give her the space for worship and she would smile with all her naivety at him. He remembered the day when he forgot about their anniversary and she didn’t talk to him.

He tried to give her a necklace but it didn’t work. Later she simply said, a necklace will be worn out with time but I will never forget this for it was a moment of my life.

He understood that his little wife is growing and growing beyond the point he could realize. She is talking of things that he never associated with the personality of a girl. He always remembered the jokes and the comparisons his friends gave in respect of women, regarding their material desires. But he experienced a completely different woman. He remembered when he confessed about his love to another girl in college and how she responded; only with silence. In that silence she simply kissed him on his forehead and walked to make some tea. He knew that his loyalty was appreciated but somewhere it also did hurt her and that was expressed in silence.

With her, he always felt silence to be deafening. He remembered that cold stare of hers which made him numb. Any moment when he would do something or say something bad she will simply stare with silence and that was enough of a sign for him to understand. She was not his first love but she made him love himself for the first time. She was not just a lady, she was not just his wife but beyond that a person. A human being too loving and the one who made him learn about life and man beyond the anatomy specifications in a book of medical science. He loved her, he respected her, he admired her and he appreciated her. She was not just his wife but everything to him.

Today again that same deafening silence persisted and it was neither to make him silent nor to give him any indication but just an expression of her tiredness. She was tired of living and leading a life. She didn’t speak, neither did he! She gave him blank stares and tears rolled down her eyes, showing her desire to stay and her compulsion to leave. He held her hands and left gasps of air showing his inability and helplessness.

They both sat, hand in hand; she breathed heavily, she searched for air in her surrounding but found none and he only stared at her, saw her suffocating and moaning in pain, he felt her suffering yet couldn’t help her; he felt as if his vows remained incomplete but he couldn’t help his disloyalty. And then he felt her hands getting colder and it slipped off his hand! She didn’t moan of pain anymore and she found peace, eternal peace…

  • My First Friend

    My First Friend

Friends play a vital role in our life. This story is about a young girl, Ria. And her first friend. They share a special bond. A bond which Ria will forever cherish.

‘But Kaku I don’t want to study!’
‘One mustn’t stop learning, Ria beta.’
    ‘But what’s the point?’
‘Look at your father. He is one of the biggest businessmen. Don’t you want to follow his steps? Don’t you wish to live the rest of your life in this same comfort?’
‘My father did not study! And that’s the point. He is only 12th pass!’ Ria argued.
‘Now, now, don’t say that. He went to college. I, myself, went to pay his fees.’
‘He was expelled for being too notorious and never attending the college.’
‘That was because he was into this business idea. He used to work day and night. Little boy, did deserve to have some fun.’ Kaku laughed, recalling the mischief her father did back then.
You studied. You completed college. My father didn’t. You’re a care taker. First his, now mine, while he is a businessman. What good happened to you? Ria wanted to say it but knew she shouldn’t. Kaku was the only person in the whole house who listened to her, understood her. And the only person, to could convince her father for anything. She wouldn’t want to hurt him.
‘Yeah, okay. Let’s go to play now. My friends will be waiting.’
Even though Ria was only 12 years old. Kaku could see every bit of Ria’s father in her. He brought up both of them, since they were mere infants. She behaved so much like him, he thought.

Sitting and watching Ria play with her friends in garden, Kaku recalled his childhood days. One would expect that at his age, he would have problem with his memory. But Kaku seemed to have none, whatsoever. He clearly remembered those open fields, long wheat crops and paddy water till his chest. How he and his brothers used to run naked in the fields, underneath the burning sun. Kaku wasn’t as tanned as he is now. He was once a wheatish complexion boy. But those games underneath the sun of 12:00 o’clock tanned all of them. They couldn’t help; it was the only hour in the day that father allowed them to play. The rest of the time they had to work with him in the farms. He remembered how being the youngest, he was always appointed easier task like watering the crops or transporting tools from house to farm. He felt understated. He always wished to work like his eldest brother. He wished to drive the tractor, harvest, get pesticides. But was never allowed to.
‘It isn’t so much fun when you actually do it.’ His elder brother used to say.

    ‘..ouh-ouh…’
‘You don’t take your medicines regularly. Do you, dada?’ Ria’s father asked, bringing tablets and water.
‘What’s there to take medicines now? What’s done is done. I don’t want pity days.’
    ‘Just like her.’
‘And she is just like you,’ Kaku spoke with a smile.
Ria could see how day by day Kaku lost his strength and will. It killed her, to see him struggle for words. She never showed her worry in front of him. She knew it would only make him sadder. She used to watch from a distance, with tear in her eyes.
‘It’s okay. He is just unwell. He will be fine.’ Her father spoke. Standing behind her.
‘Do you lie to yourself too, baba?’ She spoke coldly.
    ‘…’
    ‘Then why lie to me?’
‘He was the best part of my childhood, you know. Your grandfather employed him when I was only 2.’ He added, ‘He wasn’t always my care taker. He just happened to become that. He helped me with studies a bit. Actually, more than a bit.’
‘Why did he become a care taker, then? He could have done anything.’ Ria complained. This thought had always bothered Ria. If he was educated enough, why become a nanny?
‘He left his home when he was 16. Someone told him, he could go to city and study for free, if he proves he is worthy. And so he did. He only wanted to show he was worthy. To his father, his brothers and everyone who undermined him. He went back after 6 years but found no one. The neighborhood people wanted to send him the news but couldn’t. They did not know how to write and neither knew where he was. His father and eldest brother died due to heatstroke. And soon his family went into too much debt.’
Ria saw her father wipe a tear.

‘Their land was taken over by zaamindars. He did not wish to fight in vain. So, he collected himself and came back.

Father found him out of his factory and offered him to work. He accepted. He worked until I turned 6. Then he started devoting his time to me. I was like a little brother to him. So, father asked him to do few household works then. Like buying groceries, taking me to school, actually mainly looking after me. He was happy. Father said he was happier than he had ever seen him.’
    ‘He enjoyed it.’
‘Yes but more than that…He felt like he had a family again.’
He saw Ria tear up. She always thought Kaku lived his life in vain. She saw him and wondered what studies gave him. Today she had her answer. It gave him life. He could have died, had he not wished to study. Along with his father and brother, it could have been him too or maybe later with rest of his family. He could have never gotten the job, had he not have the knowledge. She understood why he valued studies so much.
‘Why doesn’t he wish to see good doctors, baba?’
‘He has accepted that his time has come. You are too young to understand this, Ria. You shouldn’t worry too much. Enjoy the left days with him and make him happy.’
Ria could sense pain in his father’s voice. He knew there was no point in hiding anything from Ria. It would only crush her more later.

Over the next few weeks Ria did everything she could to make him happy. She did her homework, studied for her tests. She even played chess with him, even though she did not like that game at all. Everything was fine until that day. He was sitting in the garden, like any other day. But only if Ria knew it wasn’t like any other day. After that moment, everything was vague in her mind. She remembered seeing ambulance, doctors around, her father running and Kaku, lying there lifeless. The next thing she remembered was seeing fire and smoke and her father crying. He cried like a baby. She had always seen him putting a brave front until that day.

She sat outside the house, on the pavement, leaning on the pillar. Her father’s hand on her shoulders. They both suffered a huge loss. Her father lost his brother, while she lost her first friend, her guardian.

  • Loving you was not so easy

Loving you was not so easy

“It was not so easy to leave him, I couldn’t sleep for three weeks, when every night I use to see nightmares that he is leaving my hand, going away from me …he decided so soon to leave me ;not even a single moment did he realise how I had dedicated four long years of my life to him, where every single day used to go like” his wish my command and and…” tears rolled out on her cheeks and she couldn’t even complete her words.

Sneha is my best friend and I had been with her all through the years, though the love of her life Saurabh became important for her for these four years. But when she is in pain or really very happy I had remained the only one after Saurabh with whom she could share every inch of her life, all secrets, her bed secrets too.And myself? I don’t need an introduction. But let’s go to her story.

Sneha was a very interesting girl, full of life, high on spunk but still normal, no extravagance here but a normal girl, who could dance very well, sing well and a good romantic lady who always wanted a samaritan who would love her like a princess all her life.Sneha completed her graduation from a small town in Ghaziabad district and went to LNCT Bhopal, to complete her engineering.Unlike other students these four years, she remained an introvert, where holidays meant packing her bags and run back to home.

To enjoy the complacency of being the single child of her parents. For the first three years, nothing was more important to her than her family, her friends like me. Last year, however, I heard sometimes her being interested in appeasing guys or dressing to woo somebody. But nothing of such sort, however, happened. So it was not a big wonder to have met with Saurabh on her first Job instead in the alleys of college.

Luckily I too joined her as we both got the same job.It was the first day on the job as interns and still we both were excited to be together after school. We and other 20 interns were sitting in a good maintained and professional meeting room. The floors covered with carpet and projectors and a big Led Tv wall mounted.A whiteboard on the one side and a Podium on the other side. And amongst all this were seated these twenty-odd people with files on their table embracing their earning so far, a bit nervous, a bit shy and still beaming with joy, as this was the first job of our life. They would earn money, chill out, go to places, buy expensive dresses and things which they couldn’t for long has put them into a highly exaggerated mood.

All these ideas thrilling them up.Suddenly the door opened and a man in his forties entered the still room.

He was a fat bellied, wheatish man with specs and dark and greasy mustache covering his face.

Ultimately he came in, he was a nice cheerful man who waved hands while reaching the podium. So the introduction part started as of now but I and Sneha were busy looking at the nice guys of the Room whereas the south Indian mustache man who was the owner or from HR which we neither wanted to know or bothered had started calling us for the introduction. And here was the first time when Sneha saw Saurabh. He looked like a little boy clean shaven, shiny face and lots of vigor. He spoke with a typical American accent, a sharp and loud but effective tone that was obviously one thing which attracted us to hear him.He was an engineer and graduated from SRM university, Chennai. But for us, he was looking like a cute baby.Sneha wondered whether this boy had even completed his 12th and landed up here.So later we also gave our introductions and completed the same.Sneha and Saurabh haven’t started communicating yet.

Day one ended and we met with some more people, gossips, chit chat continued till Day 2 started and we went together for another exciting of internship which as the company suggested was to last for a year.Next day was also a normal day, we got introduced to some seniors this time.So it ended in asking about the professional things, like the career in that company and blah blah.So now the third day, this was actually the day when they met.It was a conversation class and they had luckily got adjacent seats.

Sneha had heard his voice and the tone, it was impressive.Seeing him beside her, she thought of initiating a conversation.Hi, I am Sneha, and you Saurabh right? He nodded in Yes.She complemented him, ” you are too good in communication” but he didn’t say much.Sneha was not happy with conversation as Saurabh didn’t show interest. The class ended. They again met the same day in another group which was to check the teamwork and technical skills and he was in the same group. But Sneha didn’t even give a look to him.The day ended.Another day was Saturday when we just needed to go in trendy casuals and do a basic formality of being present that day.Sneha wore a black top and denim with hairs open and specs and flip flop.

Saurabh too came in a black t-shirt and jeans. This time Sneha did notice him but ignored because she found him quite rude or not interested kind of earlier. But for her surprise, Saurabh stopped her and what he asked was really funny. He asked Sneha whether they had to do any homework regarding the group work assigned to them a day before.Sneha nodded in no.But he followed for some time asking one thing or the other. It was lunch time now.So Sneha asked him if he would like to go out to the canteen. They went together and I didn’t see my friend again with me for anything.Because the two remained together all the time except going to bed.The second week, a group of eight people went out together including me and Sneha and Saurabh.

The second week the two went unitedly and it became obvious to all that something was going on between them.I had only known one thing that they had become too intense in love. Kissing on the office floor or during the Lunch Time when everyone else would be out to canteen, on the stairs to the canteen, in the basement and all nook or crannies available and that Saurabh had a girlfriend but they broke off a year back.

We had joined on November 4th and the love story between them became a topic till 3oth of December.Sneha used to go for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with him.Even the time between the three meals was his only.

I felt how speedily the girl fell in love.It is rightly said to go slow in love because as fast you fall in it, the same ways you come out of it, bereaved and peeved.

The same happened to her too.Sneha was seemingly happy as Saurabh asked her for a lunch on 31st December in a nearby restaurant.Though it wasn’t declared but we cheered her up saying “girl it’s not only lunch but a date, so he may propose you.She shied away but couldn’t hide her feelings. As usual, he came to the building gate where we four girls stayed including me and Sneha. As usual, she kissed him and he kissed her too and they both headed towards the restaurant.

They ordered food, but Saurabh was a little conscious than other days. They saw some more couples, seniors, and new interns having lunch in the same restaurant.Sneha thought, this may be the reason for his sudden changed behavior. While having lunch he put her hands away twice whenever Sneha tried to hold. After completing lunch Sneha paid the bill and was leaving with anger as she had expected that a lot would happen her first date. But she was perturbed the way he behaved. While walking out Saurabh stopped her from behind and said: “I wanted to tell you something, I can’t go in relationship with you, My girlfriend talks with my family and we know each other since last six years, She can come back in my life.”I will stay as a good friend if you want”Sneha felt something went missing in her heart.a bit or two.She couldn’t stop herself and ran as fast as she could towards our flat.

Her cheeks went red with anger and eyes red, full of tears.I never imagined this would be the climax of two months love.Sneha kept crying for a week and Saurabh would do nothing but see her and try to run away. She didn’t come to the office one day.We were all disturbed.Saurabh came to me asking her whereabouts.I told she didn’t come.Saurabh came to the building gate and called Sneha, asked her to come down. She came and started shouting at him ” You are a liar, you told me you love him I would not stay any longer here.I am leaving tomorrow.Saurabh tried and convinced her that they would continue as best friends but do not leave as he would feel like a culprit.Sneha a simple girl pacified herself. But she wasn’t happy and cheerful as always. She didn’t even go for the seat beside Saurabh which used to be her coveted place till now.

Saurabh felt the pinch. For the next two days, this continued but at last Sneha told him”I can’t act anymore if you can stay with me as my love you stay or else finish everything and I will leave. Then he held her and said but I can’t promise you anything stay wth me with your wish and once my girlfriend comes I won’t continue.Sneha thought if she didn’t call you so long she won’t come back and you are mine and would remain forever. But it didn’t happen. She used to cry alone every day in pain, thinking that his girlfriend may come back and regret why every day she would come to know new things. One day he told that he and his girlfriend never parted ways, it was just a fight. But never told Sneha that he regretted lying to her that they broke off (Saurabh and his girlfriend).

Their intimacy, however, went on increasing and went till hotel rooms too.Even after that, she couldn’t get any commitment from him.

It went on till completing one year of internship in Bangalore, we were placed at different locations. It was a surprise to Sneha that Saurabh canceled his ticket to Indore, his hometown and instead planned on a REC ticket to travel with Sneha till Delhi and then took a flight to home. Unfortunately or fortunately got the same location, Mumbai. Here life had kept some unrevealed and unraveled experiences for my friend. With the two big surprises coming up, one when Saurabh decided to travel with her and second Mumbai city; she was feeling from inside that though he had a past, he was now going to be her forever. It was still a fear pang that use to strike her.She took a week off before joining the office in the new city.As adjusting in the hustle bustle of Mumbai City was a difficult thing.Saurabh too had taken a week off and was in hometown. He used to call her every day.Even used to ask her to take a Reliance sim which was quite famous that time for free calling at night.Three days everything went normally.

Sneha used to ask him,”Did you get any call?” or Did sister say anything or she called you ?” and for everything, he said No.The next day Sneha didn’t get any call.Saurabh neither messaged nor called. Then Sneha chose to call him, But he didn’t answer.Sneha was scared, her fear was obvious.saurabh was at home and his girlfriend may call, she knew everyone in his family though she didn’t call even a single day all through the year. She got a message and then another and one more.Four messages at once, “If it is Saurabh, he is going to say something ominous as he didn’t like to message at all and long messages never. She was right, Saurabh messaged “Babu, I can’t say how painful it is to tell you that she has told everything about me to his father, to whom she never had guts to say, and his father called my Dad.I can’t do anything.

It’s painful for you I know but understand me. I loved you and will always do. “Sneha felt she was lifeless for some time, she managed to compose her, she felt like she was scattered into pieces and now she has to answer gathering herself together into a being, a living being. She messaged” You always knew this, still you chose to come with me, opted for Mumbai.you should not have done that when you had to be such a selfish guy “and she threw the Phone. No more contact with him till they reached Mumbai. She didn’t eat anything for the rest three days, nor sleep, only used to cry alone. She reached Mumbai and so did Saurabh.

Sneha didn’t even met him and tried to ignore him. But both chose to stay in the same locality, Jb Nagar, Andheri East as most of the friends were staying there.Time went on Saurabh met her sometimes, tried behaving like a friend, used to tell her,” though you hate me but still I will care for you in this strange city”.Sneha thought he was right, the madness of love has not vanished completely. One day Saurabh asked her to come for buying groceries and clothes. So they went to a mall in East Malad. It was the first time they were both traveling in a local train. While coming back they had to take the train to reach back to their place.

While boarding the local train, Sneha managed to get in as the ladies compartment was less crowded. But Saurabh couldn’t.Sneha saw him on the platform and the train had started already. She asked him and he showed I couldn’t manage. She felt he was left alone on the platform, how will he come back, if he forgets the way; what he will do.And she jumped, she jumped from the moving train. It was something supernatural that she landed in wet soil instead of the platform as the train was in so much speed that her compartment has left the platform. Her top got tore off and she got bruises. Her body has scratches and she got blank. It was her good luck that she fell on wet soil.People came running and Saurabh too came running to her.

He shouted”are you mad?” she just raised her hand to tell him to wait , she couldn’t utter a word out of pain. She couldn’t raise her hand and two people helped her to get up.They took another train and went home.A lot of things happened in between, Sneha used to cook for him, to still make him feel happy, while he often scolded her if she used to get late in cooking as he had to sleep or talk to his girlfriend.I felt this girl has gone mad. There were enough guys who were ready to date her, she was immensely talented, beautiful enough that if a man looked at her, he would stare at her twice. But nothing could stop her madness even after she came to know the reality, faced it.Still she had a hope.

Hope sometimes has a killer instinct in itself because it makes a person to go beyond reality to conjure things.Life went on, she used to meet him every time he wanted. Her love was selfless and his love selfish. With time and people saying her to stay away from such a complex relationship and the way Saurabh ignored her, she thought of shifting to a new place in the same city.Saurabh, when came to know about this tried to stop her, but she was adamant. It proved to be of no use because he followed her and whenever all her flatmates use to leave for the office, he was a regular visitor.Sneha kept on committing the crime of being close to a person who has never shown any commitment.Due to some reason or rather a company call, new joiners were asked to shift to Hyderabad where the company branch was to be set up.

Sneha thought that this was an opportunity when she can finally call off this relationship. But her misfortune followed her everywhere.Saurabh got an organizational transfer too.Sneha thought she was lucky enough as since internship they were together. They got much closer in the new city as Office was in the same building now.He used to pick her up after office, drop her and meet her during lunch time.Their intimacy rose to another level. For two and half years in Hyderabad, all went well, and they fought only because of the possessive nature of Saurabh and nothing else. They use to take holidays at the same time and if anytime because of any reasons Saurabh had to stay out-of-station.He use to tease her saying “when the rat is away, the mice will play”.

There was complete rest in their life. One day Saurabh didn’t call, his phone remained switched off the next day too.Sneha became too angry when he picked her call after two days, he told he was out-of-station and couldn’t call.Sneha was too furious with this lame answer. She noticed him but didn’t call him for lunch, this normal fight continued for two days from her side. She waited that he would call. But he didn’t, even if she called, he kept disconnecting calls.A week later, she decided to go to her flat, to clarify what was the reason behind this long pause between two of them. And she went but he asked her to go back as he didn’t want any drama at his flat in front of his friends. With tears, she left the place. He followed, asked her to sit on his bike and drove the way to her flat.He again kissed her showed the same affection as before but made the reason out for his being cut off these many days. Her girlfriend has sent her parents to my home and now marriage could happen anytime. He said to Sneha”please don’t take me wrong, I love you a lot and will always do, but my situation doesn’t permit me to make your life more painful, please marry a good guy”.

Again the cycle of events came up.The same lines he has said four years back were reiterated.”Why didn’t I leave him that very moment, more than being physically attached, the pain to be emotionally attached, hurts me now”He thinks of the girl with whom he remained in relationship virtually, expected me to behave the way he wanted her to behave and now he didn’t take a moment to decide the future of my life.

“But it was my fault to cling on such a complex relationship for so long”.

That very day she decided to end all contacts, she made her heart hard like a rock and though use to see him in the same office but never trespassed the line she has drawn herself. After one year of staying away and staying alone, she decided to move out of the city because she had ignored him but feared to roll back on the same line of desperation if she sees him with his wife.On the last day of her leaving the Hyderabad city for good, she made a call to Saurabh and said, I want to meet you for the last time before leaving. He was taken aback with her words.” where are you going?” he asked. she said, “leaving your city but this time you can’t follow because our love journey has ended a year back. The hope which was kept alive kicked the bucket last year and for the first time, I will be alone in a new city.No more you in my life.”

He came with her favorite pastries in hand drove madly to reach as fast as he can in the drizzly weekend night in Hyderabad City. They met, they cried but they were left with no options.Saurabh wanted to accompany her till station where she boards the train to leave Hyderabad.when the train left the station, Saurabh told her “Hyderabad is going to miss you.”She wanted to hug him tight as she was about to die, but she thought in her mind”I loved you all through my heart, jumping from the train to waking up early during internship to pack breakfast for you, making valentine’s day card for you or make you happy with maggi cooked in kettle…all and everything will remain alive in my heart always. However, there would be something missing in all this, the fear to loose you.”I feel proud of her as she made a tough decision in life instead of collapsing in the pressure of being fooled in love. This is life and we need to either rise out of our tough times or fall forever.

  • Love Never Dies

    Love Never Dies

Love never dies.. Love understands only the language of love and even the slightest inception of it feels like heaven.

    10th grade:-

As I sat there in English class, I stared at the girl next to me. She was my so called ‘best friend’.I stared at her long, silky hair and wished she was mine. But she didn’t notice me like that, and I knew it. After
class, she walked up to me and asked me for the notes she had missed the day before. I handed them to
    her.

She said ‘thanks’ and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I want to tell her, I want her to know that I don’t want to be just friends, I love her but I’m just too shy and I don’t know why.

    11th grade:-

The phone rang. On the other end, it was her. She was in tears, mumbling on and on about how her love had broken her heart. She asked me to come over because she didn’t want to be alone, so I did. As I sat next to her on the sofa, I stared at her soft eyes, wishing she was mine. After 2 hours, one Drew Barrymore movie, and three bags of chips, she decided to go home.

She looked at me, said ‘thanks’ and gave me a kiss on the cheek…I want to tell her, I want her to know that I don’t want to be just friends. I love her but I’m just too shy, and I don’t know why.

    Senior years:-

One fine day she walked to my locker. “My date is sick”, she said,”hes not gonna go” well, I didn’t have a date, and in 7th grade, we made a promise that if neither of us had dates, we would go together just as ‘best friends’.

So we did. That night, after everything was over, I was standing at her front door step. I stared at her as she smiled at me and stared at me with her crystal eyes.

Then she said-‘I had the best time, thanks!!” and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I want to tell her, I want her to know that I don’t want to be just friends, I love her but I’m too shy, and I don’t know why.

    Graduation:-

A day passed, then a week, then a month. Before I could blink, it was graduation day. I watched her as her perfect body floated like an angel up on stage to get her diploma. I wanted her to be mine-but she didn’t notice me like that, and I knew it.

Before everyone went home, she came to me in her smock and hat, and cried as I hugged her.

Then she lifted her head from my shoulder and said-‘you’re my best friend, thanks’ and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I want to tell her, I want her to know that I don’t want to be just friends, I love her but I’m just too shy, and I don’t know why.

    Marriage:-

Now I sit in the pews of the church. That girl is getting married now and drive off to her new life, married to another man. I wanted her to be mine, but she didn’t see me like that, and I knew it. But before she drove off, she came to me and said ‘you came!! ’ .

She said ‘thanks’ and kissed me on the cheek. I want to tell her, I want her to know that I don’t want to be just friends, I love her but I’m just too shy, and I don’t know why.

    Death:-

Years passed, I looked down at the coffin of a girl who used to be my ‘best friend’. At the service, they read a diary entry she had wrote in her high school years.
    This is what it read:

‘I stare at him wishing he was mine, but he doesn’t notice me like that, and I know it. I want to tell him, I want him to know that I don’t want to be just friends,

I love him but I’m just too shy, and I don’t know why. I wish he would tell me he loved me!

    ……’ I wish I did too….’

  • When friends have a fight!

    When friends have a fight!

The cheering crowd and the tensed composure of his friends at the gallery didn’t seem to bother Abhiram in the slightest manner. Even the assurance of winning the ongoing tournament which he has given to the most supportive person he has seen in his life, his sports teacher didn’t seem to materialize at the moment.

Yes ! Abhiram is just one point away from losing out in the finals of the State Level Youth Table Tennis Championship. The score board reading for the final i.e 5th set of the match read : Abhiram 9 Ramesh 10.
His opponent from another school seemed to be in a hurry to win the title as soon as possible and leave the arena. Maybe he had promised ‘someone’ to meet at the nearest Starbucks outlet !

He was quite confident of winning the match now. But one could see Abhiram at the opposite side of the table totally cool. Because he had good hope of winning the next point through his highly unpredictable serve. “Best of luck, Ramesh”, he murmured.
As he hoped, the scorer exclaimed. “DEUCE”.

A set in a table tennis match consists of 11 points. If both the player has their score tied at 10, then the first player to score two consecutive point wins the set. Here the same thing happened much to Abhiram’s pleasure The game was still in no one’s court.! The crowd just got insane with this unexpected twist. Ramesh smirked, probably blaming himself for his folly of taking the serve by Abhiram for granted.

Then, a miracle happened ! Much to Abhiram’s dismay, Ramesh scored the next two points in quick succession.

The match was over. And Abhiram couldn’t keep his promise he has given to his teacher. He was dejected. It seemed as if his energy got drained at that moment. He tried to compose himself. A formal handshake with his opponent and the pleased scorer happened.

He just went straight to his friends who accompanied him to watch his play. All of them congratulated them for being the runner-up. They were the best bunch of people he had in his life. “Don’t feel dismayed Abhi, you have one last chance next year before we all get into collegiate-level.”.said Ahana, trying to comfort him. I am OK, came the reply. But Ahana and others very well knew he was not at all OK. The title for which he had been dreaming much couldn’t materialize even this time, his second attempt at it.

The felicitation function continued and one can clearly figure out that Abhiram was not at all mentally present. He couldn’t bear it anymore. He just went out of the sports complex even before accepting his prize. Everyone present there couldn’t believe what they just saw ! His friends blurted out in unison, WHAT THE HELL !!! Ahana told others to stop Abhiram to stop his solo-sorrow lad venture before he create any ruckus outside. She waited till the function got over and personally went to the tournament authorities and collected the prize from his behalf after she heard a mouthful of scolding from them. She knew she had to go through this all because of Abhi.

By this time, Abhiram had a silly fight with his friends which ended with his trademark dialogue when he gets pissed off, GET LOST, YOU FOOLS !!! He took the first Rickshaw he saw and reached home. He couldn’t make eye contact with his mother when she opened the door for him. Beta, atleast tell me what happened. No reply came to this query. He just went straight to his room and threw himself on his bed. His mother followed him to his room. She felt that things may not have turned out as per her son’s plans, which got confirmed by seeing him crying inconsolably. She tried to comfort him to her level best but she knew everything would be in vain. Even though Abhiram keeps him calm even during tough conditions, a loss was something which he couldn’t learnt to cope up with.

“Leave me alone, Maa”, he replied in a quivering tone. Please leave me alone for sometime.

She knew her Abhi would be fine, as always. She left the room silently. The next second, he received a call. He picked up his phone. AHANA CALLING.

In a rage of anger, he just cut the call and switched it off. Ahana who was already angry with him because of the reprimanding she had to hear because of him a hour back, couldn’t bear it. She decided I will never speak to him.
He rejected to have his dinner although it was a Biryani which his mom made especially for him to make his mood lighter. The aroma of the food couldn’t probably grumble his empty stomach as he was dreaming himself lifting the winner’s trophy next year. To ignore a meal is not an easy task he knew especially if you have a typical Indian Mother. So, he executed the all time successful idea of faking as if in a sound sleep ! And guess what, he was victorious. At least in this game.

He somehow made himself cheerful. All thanks to his belief in Bollywood story plots, where the protagonist always wins at the last with his lady love besides him, safe from the clutches of a namesake Villain !

Now it was time for him to call back Ahana and say a big Sorry. There was an outburst of messages and missed calls when he switched his phone on. But his mind was just focused on calling Ahana. Its time for some melodrama, he felt. Yes, the call got connected. The first ring, second and third went on Why is she not attending my call ? Is she angry with me ? Yeah it was my mistake, no doubt. The answer came quite fast and equally blunt in the form of a WhatsApp text message which read Don’t try to confront me, ever…And do try to win next time, you Selfish. Good Bye !

He felt really hollow from inside. He knew he hurt her much that day and her anger was righteous. But it was his duty to make things better between them. After all, there were great buddies. He just went on thinking how to approach her the next day in school. Gradually, he forgot about the losing saga he witnessed at the sports complex that day.
The next day, as planned as soon as he got to catch up with Ahana during the lunch break, he exclaimed “Hey Ahana, Good Afternoon !”.
Ahana replied, “Who are you, huh ?” and went away without even waiting for his reply.
He continued to follow her, but in vain. At last he mustered courage and said “What are you upto ?”.
Ahana blurted , “ I want to kill you !”
YEAH, kill me. But you will have to win the trophy for me the next time !
Ahana started laughing and said, “Never ever repeat this.”
    OK. So, friends ?
“You are asking me this question for the 100th time. Why can’t we stop fighting ?”
In the garden of friendship, even fight is a tasty fruit.
“Oh my poet, please STOP this crap !”
    As you wish Your Honour
Both of them had a great chat for the next 15 minutes which got interrupted by the class bell which indicated the end of the break.
Ahana said “Uff, it’s Prakash Sir’s class now. I am going. You know he is very strict.”
Abhiram’s reply came as a thrashing, “You Science people have very boring teachers just as you guys”. He chuckled.

“Wait, lets meet after the last period. I have a good reply for this.” Said Ahana in an angry tone.
So, a reason for another fight between the great pair of friends was struck right.

  • A lesson for life

    A lesson for life

Its yet another love story picturising the most common incidents of the present love in the society. The story is about Latha and Rishva who fall in love accidentally  but the progress of love changes the entire life of Latha.

I stretched out my hands to find Rishva when I was asleep. I couldn’t find him. I woke up and looked at the clock. 3a.m.. then I realized that he may have already left for his train which he always does on Monday mornings. Yes, Rishva and I are in a living relationship as he comes to my home every weekend by Friday 11.30 p.m when no one else is on the road. We stay alone at home for the entire two days of the  weekend  after which he leaves in the early morning of Monday when the road is empty. He had been sneaking this way for the past month as he did not want anyone else to notice him here. I lay back on my bed and drowned with the memories.

It was before two years when I met him for the first time on train while traveling to college from my hometown. It was a boresome journey of five hours on that train. His face seemed familiar to me while he came up and spoke to me the same that I looked familiar to him. Then we found out that both of us were pursuing our graduation in the same college but in various batches.  We conversed a lot about the college, our courses, the journey and so on. That day’s travel was not so boring to both of us. We found our tastes to be similar and we became friends. Sometimes we met at the college and then we got even closer during our chats at the cafeteria. We exchanged our numbers and started chatting daily. He shared me things about him such as his character, his dreams about his life and future, etc. He said that he had been cheated by a girl he loved the most who left him for another guy. I felt sorry for him and added him not to worry of people who left him when he has good friends like me.

Days passed and we often travelled together in the train to our homes. We got more closer and got to know each other well. One day while we were chatting, he suddenly had his wheezing elevated and left to the hospital. I was worried until he returned at the midnight from the hospital after treating his asthma and texted me that he was okay. I felt bad that I couldn’t be there with him when he was suffering and help him.

I questioned myself if I was in love with him and then struggled a lot to sleep.

The next day we met at the temple and kept talking. While we were talking, I tried to control a lot but I proposed him for which he consoled me that he couldn’t love anyone anymore after that girl who left him. I too calmed myself that it was just my infatuation and what I felt was a friendly care over him and not love. But the next day, he texted me that he felt loved by me and he needed it. We thought for a while, conversed a lot if it was a possible relation. We even thought of leaving each other if this idea of love would lead us into trouble. After a whole day’s questions and answers we admitted that both of us cant leave each other, this relationship of ours and it felt important. So we fell in love.

We loved each other so much, cared for each other all day and night, stayed in touch all time, met atleast once a day and so on. We loved travelling together in the train when we share a lot of information about the world. I loved it when I lay my head on his shoulders and forget the entire world. I felt totally safe when I was with him.

6 happier months of our love passed. Then there came that worst day. Rishva came up to me and told that he couldn’t love me anymore. I felt shocked and wondered what has happened that had made him talk like this. He continued, “I cant be the guy you want me to be Latha. Please understand that we are not the perfect match for each other. We cant make this relation work. So let us break apart.” I asked him what was the reason for this change in him and he reasoned nothing. I felt everything turn black in front of me and tears welled up my eyes when he left me alone in the place we usually met. I controlled my tears before others saw me and reached my hostel room where I cried aloud with the confusion of what had happened to my love. I needed him the most and moreover he needed the care of me for he was already broken in his past. I called him, he did not attend the call and had already blocked me on all the messengers. He left me no ways of contacting him. I tried to speak to him through his friend but nothing worked. I felt what a break up sounded like.

We saw each other at the college but he turned and moved away. I tried a million times to speak to him and every time he just kept silent and walked away without a word to my questions. I started crying all day and cried myself to sleep all the nights. I lost my health and went so lean, even after seeing which he did not talk to me. I felt that he went heartless and inhuman. I was broken more when he texted me a day that he never loved me and was just flirting me all these months. He had been fake all these time and now he has expressed his true color.

Months passed with tears. I never wanted to look at his face yet I missed him so much at heart for I loved him more than anyone in this world. When the college was about to end, I found that he had unblocked my number. I greeted him for his placement and wished him a great future and a good bye. He replied that he felt missing me a lot all these months. He explained the reason that it was because of the promise he had made his mother that he broke up with me. His mother caught up the news of our love and did not agree to us since we belonged to different castes. She had blackmailed him that she would be torturing me if we joined together and she wanted him to promise her that he will leave me and that’s why the rest had happened.

He knew well that his mother was a kind of strict one and she would go to any extreme to control him. For my wellness, he had broken with me.

Tears welled up both of our eyes as we were talking over phone about all these. We started chatting again secretly. I felt happy that I got him back but he clearly stated that he cant promise a relation but to be just friendly with me for a lifetime. I thought that he said like that because of his fear over his mother and felt that he will change. Few months passed this way as we joined our jobs in different cities. Suddenly he again got to his rudeness and stopped talking to me, blocked me and moved out of contact. I wondered why he changed so often like a chameleon. This time when I told my friends about these, everyone scolded me for still trusting him. I thought it was a second chance but I was the one to be broken again and stand alone. All my friends left me alone for I did not respect their advice and wanted him again.  I lost good things of me including my attitude, health and above all my besties because of him. I decided not to get with him anymore and tried to be alone.

I felt my soul lifeless but I had to take up courage and live for my parents. I got a job and stayed alone in a home nearby as I did not want anyone to stay with me and remind me of my past. But that was the wrong decision I had made. One day, he texted apologizing for his mistake. He said that he wanted to make me happy for I had cried a lot because of him. I cant resist myself falling for him again for I loved him so much, so true from my heart. That’s where we decided for this living relationship in my home every weekend and four weeks are over by now. He keeps me happy for the entire two days when he is here. He cares for me like I am his baby, plays with me, fed me, made me sleep on his lap and so on. But he never cares about me after leaving until he comes here next Friday.

Coming back to the present, I got up, refreshed  up myself to my job. Days passed, weekend came but Rish did not come. I called him many times, but at last someone attended my call and answered that he had left abroad on his promotion and will not be back for years. I felt completely broken that he did not say anything about this to me even when he was here last week. I decided to die instead of being broken anymore or living this painful life. All the time, I had been so stupid and he cheated and used me up. Suddenly, I received a call from one of my friends and I told her everything that had happened. She came up to my home immediately, consoled me and stayed with me some days.

She gave me advice that ‘we should not be dependent on anyone for our happiness. In the present society, everyone is exposing only fake love for fulfilling their needs which may be money, physical or of any sort. Its we, who should be careful in choosing the level of trust and importance we give to others.’ She insisted me that I should do something in life and achieve great in my life so that my parents will be proud of me. Also she added that someday he will feel bad for missing a girl like me in his lifetime for I had been true to him all time in this fake world. I took this point in my mind. I remembered his words “You are not so pretty my Latha. That’s one of the reasons that my mom disliked you.” I first decided to change my looks, my dressing habits, my diet and became beauty conscious. I changed everything bad about me including my character of being too sensitive and caring for others that made me fall for him easily. I loved to be alone and concentrated on things to make myself happy.

I had made a good progress in Biotechnology during my graduation. So, I decided to achieve something great in my field of interest. Meanwhile, I wanted to learn Bharathanatyam, the Traditional dance, on which I had a great passion from my childhood but never had a chance to learn it.  I joined a good centre for learning it. Also, I prepared myself for the National Eligibility Test for biotech and scored a good percentage through which I got offer as a Senior Research fellow. I felt really happy and engaged myself at all these works all my time. I worked on stem cell therapy for heart failure and succeeded in my idea of replacing the heart transplant surgery with stem cell therapy. I achieved the Young Scientist Award from the Government for this success. I felt really happy for I made my parents so proud about me on that day.

    Today:

I have broken the existing record in Bharathanatyam in the Guinness Book of records. The record that existed was a continuous solo dance performance for 66 hours. Today I broke the record by a continuous 80 hours of dance performance. I felt proud that I have made the world famous record. I really thanked my friend for motivating me towards this achievement. I cant imagine myself alive at this juncture without her. I also thought a moment that Rish would have seen this achievement of mine through the media and I wondered if he felt that he missed me. But I cared the less about him now.

With a happy smiley I completed today’s page of my diary. By clearing off all the memories out of my mind, I jumped myself towards my new dreams beginning with a happy sleep…

    Moral:

If you succeed in love, you succeed in love.

But if you fail in love, you succeed in your life.

  • My Love Story

    My Love Story

This is the story of a 17 year old girl, Divi and a 19 year old boy, Mani. The story starts when they were in the same school in 6th standard. She was a bubbly, sweet, cute and a chubby girl with whom no guy would ever wish to be in love and he was so robust that he did not prefer to talk to any girl. Both studied together for 2 years, in the same class…in the same section but never had any eye contact.

Time went on; she remained in the same school. He changed his school and 5 years passed by. She was the class topper and he, first from behind. One day, Divi and his family changed their home and shifted from a rented apartment to their own bought flat, but in the same locality…and that too in the same lane as that of Mani. She kept hiding from him but destiny had some other plans for them. Whenever she tried to escape, she would be encountered with him. Then, with a deep heart, she had to smile at him.

Whenever she would come at the balcony, unknowingly, he too would come and smile at her. She also would smile and would just go away. This would happen multiple times a day. At once she thought, it was mere coincidence. But then she got to know that he knew her timings of coming out, going to school et al. When both were in 11th standard, on Rose day, he asked one of her friends to give her a rose.

Although she accepted it but only out of excitement. They started talking; he would accompany her to her coaching classes in 12th. Sometimes, he would also drop her on his bike. Both were having a lovely time together.

They started coming close but one day, Divi told about her feelings to her friend, Renu. She conspired her against  Mani by saying that he was not of her standard and that she should stay away from him. Divi gave that thought a shot and started ignoring him, showing attitude to him as if she did not know her. Her 17th bday came, she went in a hurry to the coaching but suddenly,on the way..she was stopped by him. He gave her a chocolate and bid goodbye. She did not want to be with him anymore. She was blindfolded by the stuff said by Renu.

On the day of her practical, she bought one of his friends as his boyfriend and warned him to stay away. But destiny again had some other plans.

He got to know about this “fake boyfriend” from her friend only. But still,he did not tell her. Time passed by. He still cared for her, looked at her whenever she passed  by,  took her for ice-cream treats.

One evening, she was out. He came. She waived her hand to say hi, but he ignored and went away. This thing angered her a lot. Out of fit of rage, she cut slit her wrist. This act of hers melted Mani that if a girl could slit her wrist just because he ignored her, how much love would she give him. She too loved him and finally confessed the truth about her friend cum bf and got to know that Mani already knew about it.

On 10th march, she went to his home, hugged her, kissed and said those 3 golden words. Both gave promise to each other to fulfill the void of love both had in their lives and never to part ways, whatever maybe the situation. And from that day onwards, both were head over heels in love with each other.

She went into a regular college and he, was doing his graduation from open learning school. Both met daily, used to talk for hours over phone calls. She used to come home early so that could spend quality time with him. Everything was going well until he got to know about her dark past, about her traumatized relationship with one of his friends.

It was almost 6 months of their relationship when she told him. He still forgave her, why??? Because of the unconditional love he had for her.

He said,”You were a kid and what you did, was a mistake. I am with you. Don’t worry.” He then just kissed swiftly on her forehead and went away. This was the love, trust and care they shared.

Both were each other’s strength. He made her brave to fight against odds, taught her how to love. She made him fall in love with life again. She made him smile, laugh and also made him control his high-temper.

Once again, their relation hit a hard rock when his chit-chat with some other girl came into light. They fought for 3 continuous days, she cried. He cried. But still, no one kept their ego at bay. That was the time, when both of them, with mutual consent, decided to broke up. But God did not want the love birds to separate, Divi wrote a heart-melting and emotional letter confessing her love and it went straight through his heart and acted as a cupid.

First anniversary came, but did not celebrate as both were busy. Both were heart-broken, wrenched. Again, continuous, heated arguments….2 years passed by with same fights, sweet talks, celebrating birthdays.. anniversary.. Christmas.. new year.

As they were heading towards the end of the third year of their relationship, a tragedy occurred.

She fell in love with a guy. He was a regular smoker, a drunkard. But what she thought was love was just lust for him. Mani warned her against him but she did not listen. She did what she wanted to, but Mani knew her lady love and also that bad guy. He would always mouth bad words about Mani, would question his love for her. She was innocent, fell into the trap laid by him. Whenever she tried to explain hers and Mani’s relation, he would blackmail her emotionally by saying that Mani didn’t value her and that she should leave him and she would just stop. Then he started blackmailing her by saying that he would tell everything to her mom. She feared, did not know what to do. At that time also, Mani was the only person who helped her out. He confided her in himself saying that as long as he was there,no one could harm her. He called her, asked not to contact Divi again. And they lived happily ever after.

Moral of the story is that never underestimate the power of love. Never ditch a person who loves you. Whether be your parents, boyfriend or girlfriend. Respect people who truly love you, care for you and protect you from the devils around. Love teaches you, what no school or college will. Time heals every pain, every scar. Love has that power which cannot be overcome by any other negative vibe.

  • Scars

    Scars

They say that every scar has a story behind it but what if those scars are the memories of someone.

“I am proud of my scars” She smilingly traced her fingers over her wounds. She continued, “They tell me who I was and who I have become and a constant reminder of mistakes of past”

Closing the file, the therapist said, “So, I guess it is our last session”

Getting on their feet, both shook hands. She took her bag and walked out of the door. As she pressed the elevator button, her phone ringed. She answered, “Hey Emily…yes…I’ll be there…No, I would not miss it…yes…okay see you in an hour”

Blood dripping down the sink, she had tears racing down her cheeks. Wounds on soul hurt more wounds on body. She wiped the tears when she heard the knock on her door. When she peeked outside, she was relieved to see her big sister. She stepped out saying, “I need to be alone. Leave me alone”

Hurriedly, she grabbed her wrist asking, “So you could do whatever you were doing?”

“Daisy, leave me alone. I fine”

“Mia, you know you can talk to me whenever you want”

Daisy made her sit on bed. Mia shrugged her hands off saying, “Why can’t they understand that I can never be like you. You and I are different. I would never be topper”

Daisy adjusted her hair and wiping off her tears, she held her hand, “I know. I am sure they will understand with time. You don’t have to do these things to get their attention”

“Well, apparently I am getting attention for wrong, why not this be one of them” Mia spoke showing off her newly made cut. She continued, “This at least shows that I have control over something. That I am human, not a robot who would do whatever they want me to do”

Daisy rushed to get the first-aid box and started wrapping bandage around Mia’s wrist. Mia observed her loving sister carefully nurse the wound which she had been doing since Mia started self-harm.

She settled in her chair. It was the day of her book launch. Reporters started asking questions about the book. One of the reporter asked, “You told us that it is about a girl trapped in a place, a web kind of. Is it inspired by your own life or someone else?”

A small smile came on her lips saying, “I am a writer. Sometimes, the story would have some relevance with me or you but that doesn’t mean it is inspired by everyone. At one point, you will think that it is inspired by your life too because we all are leading similar lives. We are trapped in a web called life and are trying to find our way out. So, I would say it is inspired by everyone”

Turning around, she asked, “Next question?”

“Next question?” Daisy asked. Mia glanced at her sister, “No way, you could have finished that. It was a really tough one”

Daisy shrugged with a smile, “Sissy, you know I am good at math”

Mia handed her the book saying, “Okay, so finish up my homework then”

Daisy shook her head, “No way. I am not doing that”

    Mia pouted, “Please”

Daisy said, “I am not going to do that. You are going to do your homework. I am going to give you answers if you need any”

She gave the book back to Mia and went on back to working on her laptop. Mia asked, “D, you are going to tutor me this time, right?”

Daisy gave a big smile, “Yes, I know this test is important for you”

“It is important” Emily said handing her the papers. It was contract with some company. She read the papers and signed them. Sitting back in her chair, she looked at the photo on her desk. Two sisters smiling together.

“You are dead to me” their dad shouted scolding the 19-year Mia. Mia who never dared to look up was staring him right in eyes.

She repeated again, “I am not going to do this. I don’t care what you want me to do but I am not choosing what your dreams are. I am going to follow my dreams. I am going to sing.”

“And you think that…this crazy thing will get you money? You would be happy and settled if you choose to go to this college” their dad said in high voice. Daisy was watching their argument with their mother as usual. Mia said screaming at top of her voice, “All my life I had done what you want me to do. I can’t be like Daisy and lead a simple life. I want adventure and fun. I know I am an adult. So, shouldn’t I have a right to choose my career?”

He shook his head, “You failed me. I should have known you would be a humiliation to the family.”

Mia snapped, “I knew you never loved me. I was always a burden for you unlike your favourite daughter. But unlike you, she understands me and supports me”

“Fine, if she says I’ll let you go to this competition” he said. They both turned to Daisy who was standing with her arms crossed. She started rubbing her arms and looked at Mia saying, “Mia, I think dad is right. You should look for a settled career”

Mia was shocked. Their dad said, “So, the decision is made. Mia is going to the college to study business”

Mia ran in her room with Daisy following her. As Daisy entered the room, Mia asked sobbing, “Why? For once in life, I wanted to stand for me against dad and you supported him. I trusted you, D.”

Daisy replied, “I thought it would be best for you”

Mia shouted, “Get out right now”

At night, when Daisy went to call Mia for dinner, she found a letter on her bed which read:

I would rather die than sit at desk. I trusted you D but you didn’t trust me.

Hurriedly, she opened the door of washroom and found her little sister on floor covered in blood.

Two people died that day. A sister who just wanted to get out and another who did a mistake by not trusting her. Self-harm was one of the gifts that she left for her older sister driven by guilt.

“I’ll always love you M” she said looking at the photo and seeing those bright eyes filled with happiness.

  • The Extraordinary love…

    The Extraordinary love…

Life is all about co-incidences. Fate makes its way and designs the pages of our lives to create beautiful chapters. These chapters involve many new and old people, some leave while some stay, carving their way into our hearts. This story is about two cute people and how they slowly fall in love. But as real love stories don’t have an end, so does this one.

He was a just a boy in her college,

And she was just a girl in his college,

Life was going on when one day fate,

Brought them to a turn in its wake.

She packed her bags in quite a hurry,

Assignments, exams – there was so much to worry.

It had grown dark, the sun had set in the west,

She had to run, there was no time to rest.

She bounded down the stairs and through the corridor,

Her mind and her heart constantly at war –

Deciding whether to wait and see if he was still there,

The one who had stolen her heart with his heart so fair.

But she determinedly walked on towards the gate,

Controlling her emotions coz she couldn’t afford to get late.

And she realized the city was stuck in a rainstorm

And she had nothing with her that could keep her warm.

She just stared into the rain and cursed her fate,

And that’s when she saw the familiar face at the gate.

She looked up at him and didn’t know what to think,

But he smiled at her and gave her a wink.

She blushed pink and shyly she smiled,

And her eyes twinkled with the innocence like a child’s.

‘Strange rains’ he said in his sweet gentle voice,

She just looked at him and forgot her control and her poise.

‘Yes,’ she said, ‘so untimely this rain!’

He asked, ‘Should I drop you, my car is just down the lane?’

She looked into his eyes and her heart missed a beat,

But then she thought that’s how every girl he would treat.

    ‘That would be great!’ she finally managed to say;

And then she saw that they had no umbrella they could share.

Without a word, he took out his jacket

And wrapped it around her like something preciously delicate.

‘Oh, you don’t have to do this, you’ll get a cold.’

‘I’m a strong man, and for the rains, too bold.’

‘But this is a storm, not just a drizzle.’

He ignored the comment and rubbed his short dark stubble.

She noticed the intensity in his blue eyes that had the depth of an ocean –

That made her want to trust him and want them to be one.

But she knew that it was next to impossible,

He was Mr. Popular and she had an existence too subtle.

    And still her childish, immature heart yearned;

In high hopes, her craving soul burned.

That one day in her eyes, he would see –

The amazing future that they could be.

But till that day, she will just have to wait,

Until he realizes she’s his true soul mate.

‘Should I bring here the car or shall we walk?’

‘We should walk’ she said holding his eyes in a lock.

He quietly pulled the door and stepped aside –

To let her pass into the darkness outside.

A little scared, she stepped out, but kept looking behind,

But he was right there by her side.

She smiled and he returned the smile as they stepped into the storm,

And her wandering mind tried to decide whether this feeling was right or wrong.

    Holding her elbows in her hands, unashamedly she shivered;

He put his arm around her and in his arms she quivered.

And through the dark streets they walked in a comfortable silence,

Just listening to the downpour and smelling the wet mud’s essence.

As they reached the car, he opened the door,

And she quickly settled in thanking God they had to walk no more.

As he hopped in from the other side, she loudly exclaimed,

‘My God! You are soaked, and I’m the one to be blamed.’

‘It’s okay, I’m fine’ he said revving up the car,

And they rode below the devilish sky without a single star.

Then the quiet silence started cribbing at her heart,

But they had nothing common for a conversation to start.

‘So, how is your MBA planning going, Emma?’ he suddenly spoke.

‘Going good, yes fine’ she replied while her voice broke.

She looked out the window surprised he knew,

But she concluded it was just a quick news that flew.

‘So what have you planned for your post-graduation?’

He laughed, ‘Well first I need to pass without humiliation.’

That’s when they shared their first hearty laugh,

And then her home became visible just a few blocks away,

She turned to him but didn’t know what to say.

‘You don’t need to thank me, it was a pleasure riding with you.’

She looked into his eyes and there sure was genuinity and truth.
‘Friends?’ he asked, offering his hand.

She took it and smiled but her heart couldn’t stand.

It went racing hard and she just hoped he didn’t notice –

How every time he looked at her, a beat she missed.

‘You are not like the other girls and that’s what makes you extraordinary.

Stay like this, never change, your identity – never bury.’

She blushed and stepped outside into the rain,

And wondered why her heart suddenly pained.

Maybe because she knew he was just a friend and nothing more.

But with his kind care, her heart he had scored.

She walked inside and that night before saying amen,

She wished that that day, God would play it again.

But then she thought to herself that he was Mr. Cool

And someone on whom every girl would drool.

And she had no chance against the Ms. Populars,

Who were always the centre of all controversial rumours?

Little did she know that that super cool guy –

Was just pretending to be not so shy while was actually shy.

In fact just like her, with an extraordinary talent,

To make others smile, his smile he lent.

And so they could never tell each other how much they loved,

And how much ever they yearned, they could never have showed.

But time has its own heart and it plays its game –

Who knew that carved somewhere was together their name?

Till then they will just have to wait with hopes alight,

And their hopes will bring them a future bright.

  • Love is in the air

    Love is in the air

This is a story about two people very much in love each other but shies away from expressing it because of some understanding. Read on to find out if they are too late in expressing their feelings.

    “Will she accept me?”

“What if it’s a no? At least I should try.”  “I cannot give up unsure of her feelings”.

“Oh god! What am I going to say once I meet her, also what is it that she wants to tell me? “, Arjun snapped out of his train of thoughts with a loud honking noise behind him.

“Move man what are you still doing there?” shouted some irritated voice from behind. Arjun immediately started his bike and left.

Sanjana was in the cafe waiting for him to come. She was bodily present but her mind was elsewhere.

She remembered the first time they met. It was totally ‘hate’ at first sight. She thought him to be a very rude guy. It was the same case with him. He thought of her as some rich spoilt kid. Both were wrong in their judgments. With time they understood each other better and only realized how very much alike they were. With time they developed feelings for each other and their friendship turned to love but none of them expressed it for the fear of being rejected by the other.

She tried to know about his feelings. Once in his absence and with great care to sound casual asked his friend if he has a girlfriend. Pat came the reply that he loves someone and they might even be in a relationship. She was disheartened and lost all hope. “What have I been expecting? That I shall be lucky enough to have my feelings reciprocated “, she thought to herself.

She avoided him, tried to forget him and then finally decided to stay by his side just as a friend. But there finally has come a now or never situation. Her parents started looking for suitable matches for her. They asked her if she has anyone in mind. All they want is for their daughter to be happy either way, them choosing a groom or she herself choosing her husband.

She has to express her feelings. She cannot give up without knowing what exactly is on his mind.

“I may be the one, I may not.” “What if am unable to say what I want to say, also what could he possibly want to tell me?”

She heard someone knock on the table which made her snap out of her thoughts. It was him. It was Arjun.

She smiled at him. He smiled back. He asked, “Would you like to order anything?”

    She said “later.”

    He said “Ok!”

They both stared at each other. After what seemed like ages they suddenly shouted together “I love you!”

There was a long pause. This time they stared blankly at each other. “What did you say?” Arjun asked.

“What did you say?” she questioned back.

“What did you say? I asked first” Arjun retorted.

“What? No! What did you say? I said it first and also I am just not sure what I heard was right”

    “Same here”, Arjun said mockingly.

“Aren’t you going to tell me?”  , asked Sanjana making a puppy face.

“Alright alright I said what you said”, answered Arjun.

“And what did I say?” Sanjana asked with a smirk.

“Really  Sanjana! Don’t you remember”, Arjun half smiled

    “Nope”, she said.

“You really get things done your way, alright I said I love you”, shouted Arjun.

Completely blushing Sanjana said-“And I love you too Arjun.”

“But your friend told me you are in love with some other girl”, asked Sanjana.

“And that some other girl is you. I never told him it was you I had a crush on. Ok, now you tell me who is this guy you have a crush on?”

Sanjana raised her eyebrows and said-“Who else could it be? By the way, how did you know that I had a crush on Mr. Somebody?”

“Madam!  You aren’t the only one who makes secret inquiries. I can do it too.”-Arjun said tauntingly.

That was the beginning of a new relationship, many fights and many more happy moments together.
