  • The Kitten

The sun shone brightly overhead as we trudged up the hill after being dropped off by the school bus. Bags heavy with books, and bodies weary after a long day at school, we stopped by the roundabout gate to sip some water. As we were slowly catching our breath, we heard a faint meow in the bushes near the fence.

“What’s that?” whispered Jemimah, pointing at the bushes. “It’s coming from behind you!”

“What’s what?” I asked, as I turned around to see what she was pointing at.

“Yes, I heard it too!” exclaimed Anita.

“Me too!” yelled little Sophia, who was the youngest member of the group.

We all dropped our backpacks to the floor and approached the bushes on tippy toes, and as quietly as we could.

“Meow!” came the noise again, but it was a bit louder than the first time. We got closer.

    “HHhhssssss!”

We all jumped back, startled! It was a wee black and white kitten, with the pinkest nose we had ever seen!

“Awwwww! It’s a little kitty!” exclaimed Sophia.

The little kitten looked up at us with mesmerising eyes, and a ‘will you be my mummy?’ kind of look.

With a face like that, who could resist?

Being the oldest, I decided to take charge. I took out my empty lunch box, poured some water in it, and placed it near the kitten. At first it hesitated, and moved back into the bushes. After a couple of minutes, it crept up slowly to the box and started lapping up the water like it was going out of fashion. It was so thirsty!

“Is it a boy or a girl?” asked Sophia curiously.

I had learnt about how to tell boy cat and a girl cat apart, from my sister who was 9 years older than me.

    I looked.

It was a girl! The excitement grew!

“What should we call her?” asked Jemimah.

“Yes, she will need a name,” said Anita, in agreement.

“How about Barbie?” asked Sophia, enthusiastically.  She was obsessed with her barbie dolls!

We all turned and looked at her with gentle disapproval.

“No way! We cannot call her that!” I replied. “Let’s call her Delilah.”

“YES!” the others shouted in agreement.

I wrapped my sweater around Delilah as she purred away in happiness.

Now came the hardest part. Who was going to take this treasure home?

  • The Unforgettable Night

    The Unforgettable Night

Once upon a time, in a quaint little town, a train embarked on a journey through the moonlit night. Inside one of the compartments, six passengers found themselves sharing a space filled with anticipation and mystery. They had heard tales of goons and burglars lurking around the train stations, adding an extra layer of caution to their travels.

Among the passengers was Mr. Benjamin Hargrove, a wealthy man known for his shrewdness and meticulousness. He was on his way to his daughter’s grand wedding, carrying a fortune in gold ornaments that he intended to present as dowry. The compartment was abuzz with whispers about his valuable cargo, and the air crackled with a mix of intrigue and concern.

Among the passengers sat a shady figure, a heavily veiled woman whose face remained hidden from prying eyes. Her presence raised eyebrows and evoked a sense of mystery. No one knew her true intentions, and the unease among the passengers grew with each passing minute.

As the train departed from the station, the passengers settled into their seats, sharing stories and engaging in idle chatter to pass the time. Little did they know that their journey was about to take a perilous turn.

Suddenly, without warning, the train screeched to a halt, causing the lights to flicker and the entire compartment to jolt with a collective gasp. Panic ensued as everyone wondered what had caused the abrupt stop. Anxiety grew thicker, fueled by the tales of station goons and burglars that had circulated among the passengers.

Before anyone could react, the veiled woman sprang up from her seat and swiftly opened the compartment doors. In the blink of an eye, four armed men appeared, their faces concealed by masks. Fear gripped the passengers as they realized they were at the mercy of ruthless thieves.

The burglars wasted no time and swiftly began to loot the compartment. Bags were rifled through, valuables were snatched, and despair filled the air. The other passengers broke into tears, their worldly possessions slipping away before their eyes.

However, amidst the chaos and despair, Mr. Hargrove remained strangely calm, his emotions veiled behind a mask of indifference. Unbeknownst to the burglars, he had cleverly hidden his precious gold ornaments inside a seemingly innocuous vegetable bag that he carried with him.

The thieves, focused on swift plunder, paid little attention to the unassuming bag of vegetables. It went untouched, its true value concealed from their greedy eyes. As the burglars made their hasty exit, clutching their ill-gotten gains, the other passengers marveled at Mr. Hargrove’s ingenuity and foresight.

Relief washed over the passengers when they realized that the wealthy man had managed to outsmart the burglars, safeguarding his precious wealth. They applauded his cleverness, amazed at his ability to stay one step ahead of the criminals.

The train eventually resumed its journey, carrying with it the tale of the daring burglary that had taken place on board. The passengers, though shaken by the events, found solace in the cleverness and resourcefulness of Mr. Hargrove. They shared stories of his remarkable feat, spreading his reputation as a mastermind who had outwitted the thieves.

And so, as the train continued on its way, the story of the burglary lived on, a testament to the resilience and cunning of one man amidst a chaotic and uncertain world. Mr. Hargrove became a legend among his fellow passengers, forever praised for his quick thinking and his ability to keep his wealth safe from the clutches of those who sought to take it away.

  • Diligent Life Of Farmers -By Sakshi Patidar

In the modern era of time, there are so many farmers. A year ago I and my father went to our farmhouse for a visit as we usually go over there on weekends to enjoy and spent our time with nature. As we want to stay calm and get relaxation from our busy schedules. While walking in a field alone I saw a huge mango tree with lots of hanging mangoes. Some are raw, some are ripen. I climbed on that tree and started plucking ripen mangoes to eat over there and have plucked some mangoes for home. Then suddenly one farmer working near our field came and start scolding me being a child I don’t know my mistake as well as I don’t know how to recover from that. When I contacted him through my teary eyes he stopped for a while. Then my father reached over there and asked him why he was scolding me. Then he replied; ” Seth it is not the matter of mangoes it is just the matter of the safety of a child and also a matter of my hard work which I have put to grow this tree”. Then my father told me to apologize and go. After apologizing to Kaka I went back to the farmhouse. Then the farmer said to my father; “Seth no one can understand and know the story of my hard work in front of the success which lies through the tastiest mango grown on that tree. Being an understanding person I want to tell you the story behind the success and failure of the farmers. My Father said; “Yes Kaka I will understand and will help you in solving your problems up to my extent. So, you can continue…”

The farmer continued and started sharing his old memories since he thought to become a farmer he said that; ” Seth I am a graduate person of a well-known college. But I have chosen to become a farmer. As this is the best designation for me in this world as I can contribute to the world economy. I was a teen when I lost my father, after losing him my mother was the only homemaker and an earner in my family who make food for me and go to two fields of the same owner every day. When I became mature in class 12th I asked my mother why you are doing that much work in her old age my mother cry and said; ” If I will not work for you then who can work and give food to us? Because you are not having your father and your relatives who can feed us. So that’s why I work for both of us and I want you to be a bold and successful person in the world.” From that day I kept it in my mind and become more mature and take responsibility for my mother and me. On weekends I also started going to fields on a wage basis. We both worked hard and after completing 12th my mother want me to do further education in agriculture after completing graduation we have taken land on an agreement for some time. Then I and mother started doing organic farming which there is more hard-working but every year we make more profit than the previous year. After acquiring more profit and collecting savings we bought the same land from the owner and also made a house. One day my mother and I were sitting near a neem tree when she suddenly said; “Beta you should now marry and make your family but before that, we should grow one tree over here and that should be a mango tree.” I agreed with my mother’s statement and plant a mango tree near a farm. After some days I get married and restructured my family. Things are moving smoothly and the 3 years of marriage I lost my mother. But keeping in mind all the lessons of her I started living with just her memories. In the same year after 3 months, I faced a loss and my crops were destroyed because of heavy rainfall and the unconditional climate. Due to heavy losses, I have faced a year filled with dissatisfaction and poor financial condition. From that year he started farming different crops on the same land in portions. But again he found a loss. Because of global warming uncertainties started happening and environmental disbalance creates problems. But we the farmers never try to lose our temper in any condition we again stand up with confidence and start growing another crop because we never want our country to face and be deprived of starvation. So, continuously after so much loss we again move to grow and provide a portion of food to the people of our country”. He cried and said; but the government will never support us in anyways”.

After listening to the whole story my father hugged him and said; ” You don’t worry Kaka I am with you and I will help you out and will support you. My father appreciated him by saying, that being a literate person no one can choose this field after knowing all the things. But you are the one who is having a great choice with great thinking. So, you just make a community of farmers I will appeal to the government for taking the initiative. After some time the farmer of the country gets benefits from the government through various schemes launched.

The moral of the story is:- Never try to ignore the farmers because they are the backbone of your country and because of only them you are getting food to eat. Otherwise, you will be suffering from starvation.

“Don’t do it for the rich people because they will give you money for satisfaction,  Just do it for the farmers because they will provide you the food to be alive….”

  • Whimsy and Whiskers

The town of Quirkshire was known for its enchantments, but nothing compared to the mischievous Pixiebelle. With a twinkle in her eye and a wand that had a mind of its own, she could turn a pumpkin into a purple polka-dotted penguin or a broomstick into a boisterous salsa dancer. One fateful day, her magical mayhem took an unexpected turn.

As the enchanted forest echoed with the gleeful laughter of Pixiebelle, the once-ordinary townsfolk of Quirkshire found themselves caught in a topsy-turvy spell- a spell that could swap the personalities of the townsfolk. The grumpy baker, Mr. McScowl, now donned a dapper tuxedo, waddling across his bakery as a tap-dancing penguin. With each graceful glide, he accidentally knocked over trays of pastries, sending flour and sprinkles into the air like a whimsical snowstorm. As Mr. McScowl tapped and slid his way across the bakery, the customers erupted into fits of laughter.

The mayor, typically a stern and serious figure, now rode around on a unicycle while juggling flaming torches. His stoic expression was replaced with a mischievous grin as he threw confetti into the air, cracking the the crowd up in laughter.

Benny and Penny, being twins, did not have much change in their personalities. With a dash of determination and a sprinkle of sibling camaraderie, they embarked on a quest to locate Pixiebelle’s lost spellbook. After all, it held the key to restoring the townsfolk to their rightful selves.

Their journey was a symphony of mishaps and laughter. They met grumpy dragon Ferdinand, dreaming of being a stand-up comedian but delivered feeble punchlines. The neurotic goblin strummed his ukulele with gusto, singing a comically melodramatic ballad about misunderstood socks.

As Benny and Penny’s whimsical journey neared its end, they finally uncovered the elusive spellbook. With excitement and curiosity, they opened it, expecting to find enchanting spells and magical wisdom. However, to their surprise, the pages were filled with… recipes for delectable cookies!

Cookies?” Benny exclaimed, scratching their head.

Confusion and disappointment began to settle in. A mischievous sparkle appeared in the air. Pixiebelle, the rascally fairy, fluttered before them, giggling mischievously.

“Oh, dearies, you didn’t think it would be that simple, did you?” she teased, her voice brimming with delight. “The real magic lies not in the spells, but in the shared joy of baking and bringing smiles to others.”

  • Mother’s Answer to Why Homework and test?

A small girl with braided hair from school rushed inside the home and called for her mom and started saying the things that happened in school with full of enthusiasm. Her mother with a smile on her face, listened and observed her expressions, and helped her clean herself back from school. After an hour of narration of the happenings, she started to complain about the homework and test she is about to face. And her mother smiled and asked her “Do you like school?” The child replied “Yes but not the homework and test”. She was surprised that her mother didn’t advise or say anything regarding her answer to the question she asked. Mother laughed and asked her to help her with the gardening. The girl jumped happily and said I would like to help you Mom and asked eagerly what should I do. Mother showed a pack of seeds and asked her to help her plant the seeds. Her mother asked her to read the labels in the packet, look carefully and say me the color of the seeds. The child said it’s an easy thing, Mom, I will say to you quickly and she read the names of the seeds and the color as well as the shape of the seeds. Mother questioned her “How are you so sure about the names and colors of the seeds my little girl?” she said Mom I go to school and I have learned there. Mother said ohh my little girl has learned well in her school by doing her homework and performing well in the tests though she didn’t like to do those things. The child then realized how she helped her mother with the work. Both Mom and Daughter had a great evening and the child realized, Why Homework and test?

  • JAFRATUS AND ME

    JAFRATUS AND ME

And all of a sudden, the room was filled with tiny droplets of water, only to realize that they were teardrops of actual humans. I looked at the ceiling and saw Jafratus sticking to the roof, crying silently. I couldn’t help but fly toward him, so I did and kept my hand on his head and asked what was wrong. The moment I touched Jafratus, he vanished away. I looked for him everywhere but couldn’t find him. Knowing he had gone forever was gut-wrenching, but I didn’t want to give up. I flew to Lady Orion Lake.

It all started that day when I was chasing a kidnapper near Lady Orion Lake. He kidnapped my grandmother for powers since she was half-mortal and had the powers of a god, and sacrificing her to a deity would make the kidnapper receive all her powers as he who sacrifices her acquires all her might. I was seven back then and had no idea what was going on. I just saw someone maltreating my grandmother, and I got scared, so I screamed so loudly and fiercely that fire came out of my throat. I couldn’t comprehend that I could emit fire, but I seized that opportunity and burnt them. They were all perplexed about how a child could make fire, but they were so petrified to retaliate that they ran away. My grandmother came towards me and hugged me tightly and wept. She was crying not because she was being kidnapped but because the time had come when I was to be taught about the powers that I possess.

While making supper, my grandmother told me that my father used to be a dragon slayer when he met my mother, who was half mortal and half dragon. She had a magical persona that bewitched my father, and that’s how I was born. I was astonished but also shocked to hear all of that. It was too much to gather. I composed myself and asked Grandma, “Granny, am I a dragon?”

Grandma laughed and ruffled my hair. She said, “Son, you’re a beautiful human being who possesses powers that of a dragon, but you must know that great power comes with great responsibility, so you must never use these precious powers against the weak people or those who are harmless.”

I nodded and smiled. I kept on looking at the bowl of soup. It looked tasty but I had no appetite. I had other plans. I took a spoonful of soup and put it in my mouth, and the moment I did that, I started floating in the air. I started panicking because I couldn’t understand what was happening, so I asked my grandmother if the soup was jinxed. She said, “The soup brings out your abilities and helps you understand them better for its magical potion base. You have the powers of a dragon that lets you emit fire and fly.”

I sigh in relief and end up burning the wall because I’m partially a dragon after all, and that’s how I realized I’m a supernatural being.

Jafratus was the person who kidnapped my grandmother because he knew the powers she had, and he also knew that kidnapping her would pave a path for him toward me so that he could capture me and take away all the powers that I had by sacrificing me. The plan didn’t work because it turned out that Jafratus was my long-lost brother who had always protected me. The sole reason why he wanted to sacrifice me was that he could see the future as he was also a fortune teller and knew that offering me would turn me into a complete mortal being, which would prevent me from getting into trouble because of my dragon senses. I couldn’t understand that, and I ended up hurting him. Now that I saw him in tears and was drenched in their wetness, I couldn’t help but feel remorse. Perhaps, that’s what happens when you achieve powers. In the guise of conquering the world, you sometimes forget the things that are essential for you, and the people who are dear to you often are the ones who are the reason for your downfall. If only I knew how bad of a person grandmother was that she wanted me to have all those powers to use me against the world, I would never have given myself to her. NEVER!!

  • The Panda’s Heart: A Tale of Friendship and Kindness

Once upon a time, in a lush bamboo forest, there lived a gentle and playful panda named Ping. Ping had the softest black and white fur and a heart full of curiosity. He spent his days munching on bamboo shoots and exploring the wonders of the forest. One sunny morning, as Ping climbed to the top of a tall bamboo tree, he spotted a group of his fellow pandas engaged in an exciting game. They were competing to see who could gather the most delicious bamboo shoots in the shortest amount of time. Ping couldn’t resist joining in the fun! With great enthusiasm, Ping darted through the forest, searching for the tastiest bamboo shoots. He jumped from one tree to another, determined to win the competition. Ping’s focus on winning made him oblivious to the beauty of the forest and the joy of his companions. As he ventured deeper into the forest, Ping stumbled upon a small, wounded bird with a broken wing. The bird chirped softly, seeking help. Ping’s heart filled with compassion, and he forgot all about the competition. Gently, he picked up the bird and cradled it in his paws. Ping knew he had to find someone who could heal the bird’s wing. He carried the bird through the forest, asking every creature he encountered for assistance. Finally, he came across a wise old owl perched on a branch. The owl examined the bird and assured Ping that with time and care, the bird would heal. Ping spent the following days nurturing the bird back to health. He patiently fed it, kept it warm, and provided companionship. As the bird’s wing healed, a special bond formed between Ping and his feathered friend. They explored the forest together, marveling at its wonders and spreading happiness wherever they went. Word of Ping’s kindness and selflessness spread throughout the forest, reaching the ears of his panda friends. They marveled at Ping’s compassion and regretted their own obsession with winning. Realizing the true beauty of friendship and caring for others, they joined Ping in his quest to bring happiness and help to those in need. The bamboo forest became a place of love, compassion, and joy. Ping’s act of kindness had touched the hearts of all the creatures, reminding them of the importance of putting others before oneself. Ping’s friendship with the bird became a symbol of the power of compassion and the beauty of selflessness.

The moral of the story is that true happiness lies in acts of kindness and caring for others. When we open our hearts and lend a helping paw, we not only bring joy to others but also discover the true meaning of love and friendship.
