It was a dark and stormy night as Sarah drove through the pouring rain. The thunder rumbled in the distance, and the wind howled through the trees, creating an eerie atmosphere. She knew she shouldn’t be out on a night like this, but she had no choice. Her car sputtered as she desperately searched for a gas station in the desolate countryside.
Finally, a flickering sign emerged from the darkness, indicating a gas station ahead. Relieved, Sarah pulled in and parked under the flickering lights. As she stepped out of the car, the rain pelted her face mercilessly. She hurried inside, hoping for shelter and warmth.
The gas station seemed abandoned. No one was at the counter, and the flickering lights gave the place an unsettling vibe. Sarah called out, but her voice echoed through the empty store. She felt a chill run down her spine.
Just as she was about to leave, she noticed a small note on the counter. It read: “Don’t trust anyone. They’re watching.” Sarah’s heart skipped a beat. She looked around nervously, suddenly aware of the isolation and vulnerability of her situation.
As she turned to leave, the door creaked open, and a shadowy figure stepped inside. Sarah froze, her heart pounding in her chest. The figure wore a hooded raincoat, obscuring their face. They approached the counter and spoke in a low, raspy voice.
“You shouldn’t have come here,” the figure said. “You’ve stumbled into something you shouldn’t know.”
Sarah’s mind raced with fear and confusion. She didn’t understand what was happening or why she was being targeted. She mustered up her courage and demanded answers.
“What do you want from me?” she asked, her voice trembling.
The figure smirked beneath the hood. “The truth,” they replied. “But you won’t live long enough to find it.”
With those chilling words, the figure lunged at Sarah, a gleaming knife in their hand. Panic surged through her veins as she fought for her life. The rain continued to pour outside, obscuring the gas station from the outside world, ensuring that her desperate cries for help went unheard.
As the struggle intensified, Sarah’s mind raced, searching for a way to escape. In a split second, she spotted a nearby fire extinguisher. With a burst of adrenaline, she grabbed it and swung it with all her might, connecting with the figure’s head.
The hooded assailant stumbled backward, stunned. It was Sarah’s chance. She bolted toward the exit, her heart pounding, praying that she would make it out alive.
As she burst through the gas station doors and into the stormy night, she knew the danger wasn’t over. The rain drenched her as she sprinted into the darkness, unsure of what lay ahead. But she was determined to survive, to uncover the truth, and to escape the clutches of the mysterious figures that had threatened her life.
3.5/5
The author of “The Rainy Night” deftly captures and sets the atmosphere of the story from the very beginning.
The story follows Sarah, who finds herself in a rather scary situation. What had seemed like a flicker of hope in the merciless thundery weather turned out to be her worst nightmare. To be a young person stuck in an abandoned gas station with an unusual figure trying to come for your life and threatening you…one could only be so brave. But Sarah somehow manages to get out of the situation and is determined to figure out what had actually happened!
For someone who reads a lots of thrillers I enjoyed and appreciate the author’s efforts.
The story gave me chills and truly had my attention from the get go! However, it would have been nicer if things were more fleshed out like say, Sarah’s backstory and perhaps a bit more intensity!
Overall,”The Rainy Night” was a commendable effort and a wonderful read!
