Soumya was a dark skinned ,chubby and overweight girl in her early teenage years. Everyone made mockery of her physical appearance. Nobody saw the sadness in those beautiful doe shaped-eyes.  This was the reason she had always confined herself to her room and her drawing book .She prayed to God everyday to become fair and slim.  .Her physical insecurities led her to socialize less and she had only one friend that was her pet, Munchie. Her art teacher , Ms. Smita loved her artwork and always praised her as she had such intricacy and depth in her art. One day before the Diwali Vacation, Inter-School Rangoli Competition was held in school and everyone was asked to select their team members to make a group of four. Nobody wanted to team up with Soumya. When all groups were formed , Soumya and the head Boy of the school Arun were left. Arun was the crush of every girl in school. Seeing Soumya team up with Arun everybody laughed at them. Soon , the competition began. Soumya , her usual self started making rangoli using flowers and leaves only. Arun sat in a corner adamant to not help her. She made such a beautiful peacock rangoli that everyone was left stunned . As the time finished, everyone was proud of their designs and started mocking Soumya that she was too dumb to not use any rangoli colours or external artefacts and that her rangoli was too basic. When the result came out, Soumya and Arun won the competition and were lauded for making a sustainable rangoli .Ms. Smita congratulated her and said ” Soumya, Always remember, Your physical appearance does not define your worth, your talent does”. Arun felt ashamed of his behaviour and apologized to Soumya. All her classmates also congratulated her and apologized for their behaviour. The star of the competition looked at the sky and smiled as her prayers were answered today !!
