“Is there no way to save my son?”

“Sir, we need to transplant a heart immediately.”

The surgery was difficult; one beating heart ceased beating and was replaced with a new mortal essence, which caused one mother’s tears and the family to pace in front of the operating room. The father’s tensed face and the grandmother’s recitation of prayers. A brother took a hushed breath while keeping his eyes fixed on the OT.

“Congratulations, it was successful.”

Their gratefulness whispered to the doctor as their eyes glistened with joy. Their lungs took in the comfort. However, the father has to walk away from the family.

“How much money is required, then?”

“There is no cost for the donor, sir. When they passed away, they wanted to leave a legacy.” The doctor informs while smiling dejectedly.

Father pauses to say, “I see,” before returning his focus to the physician. “who are they? Can we meet up? I must at least express my gratitude.”

“The donor’s husband does not want to meet you because the family long ago took the body home. He opposes this vehemently. When he arrived, the procedure had already been completed. Because your son needed a heart..” The doctor sighed heavily while gazing at the ground.

“The donor also consented in writing to give their heart. Therefore, don’t feel bad.” the doctor swiftly added, while observing the remorse in the parent’s eyes.

“In any case, if he is well and his body has accepted the heart, he can be discharged.” The doctor grinned as he left the area.

“Thank you, doc,” Father said with gratitude and the doc smiled while walking away.

The donor’s husband sobbed uncontrollably as he hugged the coffin of his beloved while hot tears streamed down his scarlet cheeks. Although sympathies were being expressed for the family, the husband didn’t require any of that. Just give him back his love, sweetheart, and everything, and act as if the catastrophe never happened.

A baby’s gentle hiccups cause the husband to turn around and look at his mother-in-law, who is attempting to quiet the 10-month-old. Quickly reaching out to his in-law, he demanded his son.

“Ro—”

“Please, only he can now give me the courage.” The grandmother hesitated before giving her grandson. When the father hugged his son and held him close while he shed a few silent tears, she bit her handkerchief.

“Baby, be calm. Your papa is here.” He stroked the boy’s pink cheeks while gazing at the small nose that reminded him of his love, who had been asleep for all eternity.

“Your father is only able to breathe because of you. Otherwise…” The spouse cast a glance at the casket, which had been decorated with white flowers. He cries while closely embracing his son.

He still finds it difficult to accept reality. He squeezed his eyes, hoping to wake up. Although, his son fisting his shirt was proving him wrong. However, his son is the one helping him not to break down completely.

Your story’s “Prologue” is well-structured. It fascinates the reader to know more about the story’s plot. All the dialogues are well made and apt for the situation.
The sectioning of the plot makes us know both the feelings of the donor’s family as well as that of the recipient’s family. While the recipient’s family is under the tension of the ongoing heart transplant and its consequences, there is another family who has lost their loved one and is willing to save a fellow human life. This part of the story gives a well-identified theme to the readers. We must help and save people even when we are suffering. Humanity is what makes us humans. A person not revealing their kindness and showcasing off is also worth the appreciation. The ending of the story part is giving hope for a new life for the father and child. The husband who lost his wife and the child who lost his mother, both lost a precious person in their life. It is true that the child is indeed the father’s hope in life and his reason for survival. I also hope you develop this prologue into a more developed novel with an interesting plotline. I would love to read more of your works in future. Keep writing and do publish more stories!
