The most often question I had been asked in last year was : Really a captain? and whenever I heard these three magical words I always felt that CAPTION IS BETTER THAN CAPTAIN. It all started in April,2022 when the most serendipitous thing happened that I was given the charge of school as its head boy.( You can’t decide what life has in stock for you). In the school, captainship has always been a legacy, certain qualities, rules and infact sermons being passed on as inheritance from one batch to the other. It is always said that , “Those who forget their seniors never find peace in school”, then how could I have disobeyed my seniors and I also started on the same note. There’s always have been a trajectory that students till secondary have to be the most discipline disciples of this alma mater (at least to the seniors) and captain used to be someone with good physique and the accepted one but this time the story was different . As a captain you have to decide between being partisan of former legacies or your inner conscience.

The initial phase of my responsibility is worth remembering as I shed 10 kgs of weight during first two months of my captainship. After a few months, Rai insurgency operation started there was a sudden burst in the complaints of Ragging. Time changed, situation changed, legacy changed, but the point of concern was WHO TO BE BLAMED? and WHAT ARE THE DUTIES OF A CAPTAIN? And answer to this still remains a mystery. But if you ever get chance to ask your seniors about their era, the most accepted answer would be, “THOSE WERE THE DAYS”. Yes, “those for the days”, when no one ever questioned the captain .Last one year taught me that the definition of senior in the school has always been modified according to ones convenience since ages and this brings me to say that this is MNSC: Motilal Nehru School of Convenience.

There’s have always been a drawback of this place that only a few had tried to think out of the box and those who dared face repercussions. Let students be abnormal. This austerity for a year has changed one thing as major in me and that is : LISTEN MORE,SPEAK LESS. My one way of keeping my mind stable was I started criticizing myself as it helps you perform better. What I could derive as a captain was be the first one and others will not follow as there is always choice .

Those force stripes had something strange in it, no doubt the water in river now isn’t the same as before ,but its sanctity is still maintained.

My dear friends, some of you will hold the baton which I was holding and you will have to make choices every moment and the battle will always be between the SOCIAL CODE and the MORAL CODE but the choice will always be with you. It’s good to be abnormal .it’s good to be able to think out of the box and it is absolutely fine to not follow the normal standards set since ages.

 SET YOUR OWN STANDARDS.

You’ll not be able to meet others expectations,so don’t even try. MEET YOUR OWN EXPECTATIONS AS A CAPTAIN.

You might not be as quintessential as former but what matters is YOU DID TRY YOUR BEST!

And my responsibility and the article both ended on a questionable note: Who is responsible? and What are the duties of a Captain? and as always you can answer it according to your own convenient.
