  • I WANT TO EAT YOUR PANCREAS

I WANT TO EAT YOUR PANCREAS

Haruki is a high school student who has no friends. The boy comes across a small notebook one day. Sakura, a fellow classmate, is the proprietor of the diary. Sakura informs Haruki that she has a terminal disease, but he shows no empathy for her. Sakura gets fascinated by the boy’s behavior and follows him around.

Despite Sakura’s efforts to become friends with Haruki, he shows little interest in her. Sakura, on the other hand, is persistent and “forces” Haruki to hang out with her. After spending more time together, the two became closer.

Everyone in the class is talking about Sakura and Haruki. At school, there are dating speculations circulating about those two. Nonetheless, Kyoko (Sakura’s best friend) is not happy. Despite being Sakura’s closest friend, Kyoko is unaware that her best friend is dying from a terminal illness.

Sakura’s health weakens after they go on a trip together. Haruki pays a visit to Sakura in the hospital. Sakura gets out of the hospital one day and accompanies Haruki to view the fireworks. Sakura is later discharged from the hospital.

Sakura and Haruki plan to meet together to celebrate her return. The boy chooses the first coffee shop they visit together. Sakura, on the other hand, does not appear. Haruki returns home to hear that Sakura has died. Sakura was on her way to meet Haruki when she was stabbed in the chest by an unknown person. This news totally devastates the youngster, and he misses her funeral.

Haruki travels to Sakura’s house after fully accepting her death. The boy meets Sakura’s mother there. Haruki receives her daughter’s diary from the mother. Haruki imagines a final meeting with Sakura while reading her final notes to him. Haruki meets Kyoko after making peace with Sakura’s death. He shows Sakura’s diary to her. Kyoko storms out of the coffee shop, furious. Haruki has enraged her by not telling her the truth.

Haruki chases Kyoko. Despite Kyoko’s harsh attitude, Haruki thinks that they can become friends one day (as Sakura wishes). Haruki and Kyoko travel to Sakura’s cemetery as friends a year later.

  • Movie Review: Hirune Hime:Shiranai Watashi no Monogatari (Napping Princess: The Story of the Unknown Me)

Movie Review: Hirune Hime:Shiranai Watashi no Monogatari (Napping Princess: The Story of the Unknown Me)

Dreams and reality often are separated by a thin line. This movie explores the idea of fading that line and dives into a wonderful world where you are lost in the true meaning that defines reality. The story begins with the start of preparations for Tokyo Olympics 2020. With the dream sequence of the main character placed just right into the frame. With that being said, let us go right into the in depth analysis or category by category review of the movie.

Disclaimer: May contain some spoilers. The review is a personal opinion.

Art: A rating of 8.5 out of 10 does justice to the art of the movie. The movie looks spectacular, with great visuals and eye catching effects. The artwork, especially the designs of particular gadgets looks incredible. The intricate detailing in the designs of machines just puts another cherry on the top of this movie. The machines were designed very similar to the counterparts found in the real world. The typical artwork found in Japanese animations is seen all over the movie after all it is an anime movie. The detailing in each scene just makes us appreciate the animators a lot. They did a great job in the modelling and animating the gadgets and of course humans.

Story: Rating 9 out of 10. At first when you read the summary of the movie you will realise that it is just like any other children’s tale but after watching the movie it feels like it can be enjoyed by all ages. The story even if it seems a little childish, gives a very good outlook on life and makes us question what should we trust. The story begins with our main protagonist Kokone dreaming about a place called Heartland where everyone has to live by the King’s orders, your typical kingdom. But this king was obsessed with cars and the kingdom mass produced the cars. There are scenes which makes us hate the monarchy of the king. In this dream the main protagonist dreams herself as Ancien who is the daughter of the king making her the princess of Heartland. She has a magic tablet which can do wonders. Because of her powers a monster named _Colossal___ attacks the kingdom of Heartland. In order to keep the reason for the attack a secret, the princess is never allowed to leave her castle. This is all just the beginning of a great story. Up ahead, Kokone will find her old friend who will help her in her journey. The conspiracy behind her dad is solved by his daughter through this amazing adventure. The twist in the story is well placed but it was kind of obvious, yet still catches you off guard. The ending was heart warming and leaves you with good vibes.

Character: A rating of 7.5 out of 10 is pretty fair. There is so much potential with the characters. The main character who knew very little about her mother finally realising the truth by the end of the movie, the dad who saves her daughter from the danger, the grandfather who realises his granddaughter at the right moment and finally the most amazing was the dream of her mother caressing the daughter. These characters are to some extent very relatable. The dad’s character development after the twist was amazing as well. The seemingly inanimate gadgets showing a great deal of help really gives you a warm feeling.

Soundtrack: I will give a rating of 7 out of 10 for the soundtrack. The movie did not have a very catchy soundtrack that will make it stand out from the rest. But the soundtrack is pretty decent and goes well with the story.

Overall: I will give a rating of 8 out of 10 overall. It was a pretty enjoyable movie, with some morals to be learned in the end. The journey with the characters leaves you thinking what if your dreams come true? And how can you leave an imprint of yourself after your death like of the characters? It gives a sense of hope for the future and leaves you thinking about the new technologies that have been rising in the world now.

  • Why Pink is pink? Did you find it in the movie?

Why Pink is pink? Did you find it in the movie?

Pink is supposed to be girly but is it so?  Pink color most often associated with sensitivity sweetness, femininity, and the romantic.

But you can find another picture in the past.

"In the 18th century, it was perfectly masculine for a man to wear a pink silk suit with floral embroidery," says fashion scholar Valerie Steele, director of The Museum at the Fashion Institute Technology and author of several books on fashion.

    Steele says pink was initially

"considered slightly masculine as a diminutive of red," which was thought to be a "warlike" color.

Recently released movie 'Pink' created another debate over pink color. Movie is about women and stress upon their consent with respect to sex.

When Sircar, the director of the movie was asked about the reason behind the title, he simply said that you will know when you watch the movie.

But many of us even after watching movie couldn't come to one conclusion.

Slang, a lexicon of non-standard words, define “pink” as a reference to forced and often cruel or threat-based occupation of a vagina by an unwelcome penis.'

After 18th century, when pink color increasingly associated with femininty, its use also increased. It may signify increasing sex based violence and fight against it as well.

Here is google trend of the word 'pink'.

The movie depicts sexual violence and fight against it. We all are suffering under different shades of pink. Go and watch the movie and sit till the real end, Sarkar has a lot to say!

Last Embrace : Tribute to Neerja Bhanot

    Tribute to Neerja Bhanot

Today as I write this diary entry, as She always wanted me to write, my heart aches at the fact that you are not here to read it and appreciate me for my venture.. I still remember all the times when she made me a proud mother and today I write this to make Her proud of me:

Since her childhood, I could see the spark in her eyes. The spark of an over achiever. She had it in her.

I still remember how happy she had been in her life at that time. After her failed marriage, my pretty child had got her moments of happiness. I thought the storm had gone. Little did I know, it was but just the beginning.

“Mumma, I promise you that one day you will be really proud of me”, my 12 year Neerja had said clutching to me once. I almost hear these words in her voice as I write this. Proud I am though, but not at this price. Yes, as an Indian, my chest broadens but what about a mother?  It’s torn into pieces. Which mother would want that? What’s the purpose of being proud when I don’t have my little baby to kiss for her success?

My baby was like a baby herself. Even as a 22 year old grown up, her heart was of a child. It’s even painful that she left us 2 days before her 23rd birthday. She had been quite excited about it. She had planned an entire day with her family and friends. She planned so much. I can’t hold myself from breaking down at times when I recollect the grins she gave when it was about going to parties, specially her own.

But I never knew that she was so mature, so brave, that she chose to save the life of kids, instead of her own.

I remember the fateful day her flight was scheduled; I see that playing in front of my eyes several times. She never considered any job as big or small and was proud as being the senior ‘purser’ on that Pan am flight, even though she went to be an attendant. She had asked me for my blessings and gave me the tightest hug.

Oh, I wish I could had stopped those moments for a life time and never let go of her from that embrace! Or I could have some supernatural powers to live that hug again, had I known they will be my last moments with her.

Neerja, Papa is equally proud of you beta. He knew the very instant that you will not stand something unfair, when he got a call about the hijack of your plane while he was in his conference, even if it meant to get your own self in trouble.

Our life has never been the safe since the day you have left me.

All those awards and that asoka chakra that hangs  in our hall makes us imagine you with it, smiling cheerfully and saying, “I had promised you na?”

I know you’re with me as I write all this now. I can feel you standing next to me. This chilly gush of winds out of nowhere can make me feel of your presence. I smell your perfume at random times. I see you in my dreams every day.

I have stopped crying, but my hopes of seeing you again have not. I know you miss Mumma. I know you have lost your way, but you will find it eventually. I trust you on this.

I know you will be back soon, for one final embrace. Our ladoo, you’ve died a hero, we salute you.
