Chapter 8: The sleeping shot

Date: 19th July 2012, Thursday

Place: Pulipakkam

When they reached the farmhouse of Somanathan, it was 12.45 p.m. in the afternoon.

The gatekeeper opened the gate on seeing Somanathan.

The car entered the farm house.

Pugazhendhi’s jeep followed the car.

The Farmhouse had compound walls on four sides.

The compound wall was 6 feet high.

In the middle of the campus, there was a bungalow type building.

In the left side of the campus, there was a gated area, where many goats got tied up.

On the right side, there was hut-like structure, where many hens were there.

Many coconut trees and mango trees existed inside the campus of the farm house.

The car stopped before the bungalow.

Pugazhendhi’s jeep also stopped after them.

Somanathan got down from the car and guided them inside the building.

Somanathan’s driver stayed in the car.

Pugazhendhi left Apparao in the jeep.

When they entered inside the bungalow, a guy was standing in the hall.

Somanathan said, “Sir, he is Suresh, he is the watch keeper who got a sleeping shot”

Pugazhendhi asked, “Where is the bureau?”

Somanathan said, “Come with me, sir”

They walked straight into the corridor and took a left turn.

There was a room which got kept open.

They entered the room.

There was a bureau, which got made of iron.

Its doors have got cut open and the money got looted.

Somanathan said, “This is the bureau sir”

Pugazhendhi asked, “How much amount did you lose sir?”

Somanathan said,” 1 crore sir”

Pugazhendhi exclaimed, “What? 1 crore? Why did you keep only one security?”

Somanathan said, “Sir, Usually I will not keep money here”

Somanathan added, “From last month only I started keeping money here”

Pugazhendhi said, “Is it white or black?”

Somanathan said, “It came through my real estate business”

Pugazhendhi asked, “Have you paid taxes or not for that amount?”

Somanathan said, “No sir”

Pugazhendhi said,”Mmm…then how can you give complaint?”

Somanathan said, “Sir, I thought you will help me in this case”

Pugazhendhi said,”mmm…Will do, ok, where did your security position himself last night?”

Somanathan said, “He closed all the doors from inside”

Pugazhendhi said,”Ok”

Somanathan said,” he sat on the sofa and he was watching television”

Pugazhendhi said,”Ok”

Somanathan said, “At 11 O clock in the night, he got attacked with a sleeping shot from his back side”

Pugazhendhi said, “I want to see the Hall once again”

Somanathan said, “Come, sir, we will”

Both of them came back to the Hall.

Pugazhendhi said,” Mr. Suresh, where were you sitting?”

Suresh said, “In this sofa sir”

Suresh notified the sofa.

Pugazhendhi said, “Sit in the same place and in the same position”

Suresh went and sat on the sofa.

Pugazhendhi looked at his back.

He was analyzing the possibilities.

A stair was running to the upstairs.

The left side of him had a window exactly below the roof top.

Pugazhendhi asked, “From which side you got a shot?”

Suresh pointed the left side.

Pugazhendhi said, “Sir, then that window opening is the possibility”

Somanathan said,”mmm…it could be like that”

Pugazhendhi said, “Can I see the sleeping shot injection?”

Suresh took an injection from his pocket and gave it to him.

It was very tiny and made of plastic.

It looked like a small syringe.

Pugazhendhi said, “A gun should have got used to eject it”

Somanathan said,”Mmm…yes sir”

Pugazhendhi said, “Then somebody has climbed up to that window level and used the

Sleeping shot on him”

Somanathan said, “Yes sir”

Pugazhendhi said, “But that opening is not enough for a man to enter”

Somanathan said, “That is why I came to you”

Pugazhendhi said, “Sir, sleeping shot could have got done by a man, but the theft, could have got done by a machine”

Somanathan asked, “What?”

Pugazhendhi said, “My mind tells like that”
