Zade and Sarah were high school sweethearts who had just gotten married. They were known for their epic love story in high school and college and how they had stuck with each other through tough times. They had recently moved to a small town to start their wedding life and build a family of their own. They had sold all their assets and brought a really old mansion fit for a family of 10. Zade and Sarah always had a thing for adventure and wanted to live in the suburbs in a big old house. The house was said to be at least 100 years old and belonged to a world war hero who went missing suddenly. It was rumoured the house ate him up but Zade and Sarah did not believe such things.
They had finally moved into the house. The trucks which were exporting their goods would arrive shortly. They both unlocked the doors and went inside their new home. The entire mansion looked as if it came straight out of a movie. The chandelier and the spiral staircase and all the carpets, everything was untouched and unique. They took a tour of the house and were feeling very happy about the new phase of their life they were going to start together. They checked out the rest of the rooms as well. While coming back down, Zade noticed a painting of a little girl probably from the 60s hung on the wall between the two staircases. It was made on a large canvas and the girl appeared to be around 10 years old. the painting was a work of art as it looked as if the girl was standing in front of them. The trucks arrived shortly and they made their way downstairs. Sarah instructed the movers to keep the stuff near the girls painting on the staircase. Within a few hours, their entire stuff was stacked near the staircase.
Zade started unpacking the boxes and Sarah helped him put all the ceramics away. Two hours later and their living room was looking lively and cosy. Zade started unpacking the rest of the boxes while Sarah started stacking all the empty boxes to be put in the attic. Suddenly, both of them heard the giggling of children coming from the lawn. The neighbours had several kids who were running around the neighbourhood. “It must be the neighbours’ kids. I’ll go and check” said Sarah as she descended the stairs. She opened the door but there was no one on the lawn. she checked the neighbouring area of the ground but she couldn’t see any kids. “Weird,” she thought to herself and left to go back to her husband. She entered the home and Zade asked her who was at the door. “There was no one. They must be playing hide and seek!” said Sarah answering Zade. Sarah reached the staircase and stood face to face with her husband whose back was facing the wall. Suddenly, the colour drained out of Sarah’s face. Zade noticed the sudden change in her demeanour and asked her what was wrong. Sarah’s face went pale as if she had seen a ghost. She pointed to the painting and said with a trembling voice ” The g-girl…..she…moved her……head!” Zade visibly paled and slowly turned around to look at the painting that was supposedly moving. He moved a bit closer to the painting inspecting it despite his wife telling him not to. The painting was normal and nothing looked out of the ordinary. He turned back around and said, “You are seeing things, honey. You need rest. You might be exhausted. Plus it is just a stupid painting. The paintings don’t move1”. Suddenly, two hands emerged out of the painting and pulled Zade inside.
The End~
